I'm so disgusted. Sitting here listening to the radio, and his new song Stays in Mexico has grossed me totally out.
I HATE all the songs and shows glorifying cheating. My stomach is in knots now. How could he? How would he feel if it happened to him...if it was HIS wife or gf down there in Mexico?
Sickening.

Kimmy, while I was driving across NE last week I put on a country station and heard this song. Bleah. It's a hooky song, and so I guess I can see why Toby Keith - though he sucks totally - is popular, but I barely got through it.
After it played, another stupid tune with a chorus that ended "Mayun Downt Chaaaainge" played. That was it for me. I went back to my CDs and listened to Hank (SENIOR!) and Patsy speak some truth.
Then I switched over to house music, then ROCK, and finally I no longer felt violated the way I do when I hear bad music full of pandering jive.

NG - I heard that one a couple of days ago, and quickly changed the station!! I thought the same thing!!! It's a cryin shame these "artist" don't have anymore respect for themselves (and others)! I guess it seems like no big deal, if you've not been slapped in the face with it...sad, sad, sad!!! I didn't really like Toby Keith anyway, just adds to the reasons why! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Its a real shame...I LOVED Beer for My Horses....'course, I'm a complete SUCKER for Willie.
Have on Brave Combo right now (nothing like some rock polka to cheer you - they're from my hometown)!
Think I'll switch to Creedence, then the O Brother, Where Art Thou CD.
Maybe after that, I try the radio again....

Niosgirl - I'm a HUGE Toby fan - H and I went to his concert in LA on Saturday night. Guess what song he opened the concert with? Yep - Stays in Mexico. I just stood there on that one -no clapping etc. I was REALLY shocked the first time I heard that song on the radio and agree with you completely.....I honestly do not know what people think when they write songs or movies glorifying infidelity. It amazes me!

Ok, but what about this line in the song? </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Don't bite off more than you can chew, There's things down here the devil himself wouldn't do</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I'm just not sure he's promoting infidelity... You can watch the video here I think he's making fun of the behavior. Please tell me if you think I'm wrong...

Robby -
I've seen the video, and it's looks to me like he's poking fun at them...but to a lot of the world, there is nothing humorous about the subject...

Olive Oyl! Haw, that's not a bad description. Who is she really? I don't know too many "current" country "artists". I don't like any of the ones I've heard recently. Actually, I love Neko Case, but she doesn't get played on country radio. She's got a great cover of Aretha's "Running out of Fools" on her last CD.
...
Stop defending that [censored] Toby Keith you people!
Okay, that was not fair. I apologize. Different strokes for different folks. I'm glad there's so much variety out there that one person can love music that makes another one scream.

Well I can't stand Toby Keith...neither is politics nor his arrogance, but what I really can't stand is that my ex fiance looks exactly like him. On the rare nights I would go to the bar with my ex, everyone would call him Toby and say we looked exactly like the couple in Keith's video. BARF, BARF, BARF
And now that the ex is running around with ol' fake t*t's herself, I can just imagine what people are saying to him. BARF again!

Weaver-
I'm sorry about your X's looks and Toby.
BARF!
but politics?
I suppose you could call them assertive patriotism or retributive politics...
What about Dave Matthews songs directly about infidelity?
If I was his wife I think I'd be a little bit worried...

When I threadjack I should at least say something about the thread, huh.
I will just say, I have never heard of the song before. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Until Robby linked me directly to it. Are you getting paid by him Robby??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Robby -
Toby Keith - yes his politics, and his arrogance.
I'm not that familiar with any Dave Mathews, so no comment there.
I made a CD the other day of all the sad songs I could think of and one of the songs I put on there was "November Rain" by Guns & Roses, never really listened to Guns & Roses too much back in the day, but that song came on and I literally bawled my head off. First time I cried in so long, thought I couldn't cry anymore.
Anyway have you listened to that song recently Robbie? ... it is just sooo sad.

Weaver, it's not all about me. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Dave Mathews, isn't that the concert your W just went to Robby???
Isn't funny, how a song takes on an entirely different meaning in our lives now?
Good or bad ones, they all seem to make me sad. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

The day after the sparrow left, I was bawling my a$$ off. Needing a breather, wanting to change something, anything, in the air of the room, I turned on the radio. First song: "Yesterday". I think I blacked out for a minute.

Yup. She loves his music! (hates his politics) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />
This is actually her quote:
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">If I was his wife I think I'd be a little bit worried... </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I like his music but didn't really pay much attention to what certain songs were about until W pointed them out...
And yes, November Rain is a sad song....
Why do you want to listen to sad songs?

The song that gets to me is Rod Stewart's
REASON TO BELIEVE
If I listened long enough to you, I'd find a way to believe that it's all true. Knowing that you lied, straight-faced, while I cried, Still I'd look to find a reason to believe. Someone like you makes it hard to live without somebody else. Someone like you makes it easy to give, never think about myself.
If I gave you time to change my mind, I'd find a way just to leave the past behind. Knowing that you lied, straight-faced, while I cried, Still I'd look to find a reason to believe. Someone like you makes it hard to live without somebody else. Someone like you makes it easy to give, never think about myself.
If I listened long enough to you, I'd find a way to believe that it's all true. Knowing that you lied, straight-faced, while I cried Still I look to find a reason to believe Still I look to find a reason to believe Still I look to find a reason to believe...
