quote:
Why do you want to listen to sad songs?

robby, it's the age-old question. I guess there are times when you feel so blue and so alone, and hearing a sad song is like a friend in the room saying, "I've been there. You aren't alone."
For me, if I'm way way way down, it's no good. No being consoled. But if I'm a little above the bottom, sad music helps. Chase it with something upbeat that makes you feel good and energizes you, and you might manage to flush out some grief and pull yourself up out of the dark.

There is no way I could listen to that Rod Stewart song. That song is just way too true for all of us "betrayed but still in love with the liar" folk.

I had this conversation with my wife last week. She is in the middle of her second affair. The other man gave her a CD with all these songs about finding true love, leaving one person for another, etc.
I told my wife you'll never hear a song written or a see a movie where a couple is having problems, and they go to counseling and work it out.
We can get our support from a site like this, they can get their support from a Country Western song. I think we all know who is better off.

Some look to popular music for guidance and answers. They're called things like "drug addicts", "criminals", "wayward spouses", etc.
Others use popular music to find comfort in their sorrow. They're called "not crazy".

You want a sad song? Listen to the Johnny Cash version of "Hurt". Wow...
I hurt myself today To see if I still feel I focus on the pain The only thing that's real The needle tears a hole The old familiar sting Try to kill it all away But I remember everything
[Chorus:] What have I become My sweetest friend Everyone I know goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns Upon my liar's chair Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair Beneath the stains of time The feelings disappear You are someone else I am still right here
[Chorus:] What have I become My sweetest friend Everyone I know goes away In the end And you could have it all My empire of dirt I will let you down I will make you hurt
If I could start again A million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way

Yeah, that's pretty sad...I am so glad that Johnny Cash faced his demons while he was still alive.
