I was thinking about the sermon I heard last night and I wanted to share a couple little nuggets with you. I wish I had heard this sermon when I was knee deep in the beginning stages of all the pain.
It was all based on 2 Timothy 1:7:
God does not give us a spirit of Fear, but of Power, Love and a Sound Mind.
What does that mean?
Well, let's look at the first part. God does not give us a spirit of Fear. So, where does that fear come from. It comes from inside (our flesh) or from evil influences. But the bottom line is, God does not want us fearful, timid, scared, or paralyzed by our fear, especially if it prevents us from growth or boldly moving to the next step.
So, what He is saying, is, if you are freaking out and afraid, that is not coming from Him. Because as far as He is concerned, if you turn to Him, He has it all worked out already, you just can't see it. He says he has a plan in store for you better than what you could conjer up in your wildest dreams, so, just relax in his protection. He has your back if you just love and trust Him with your life, so, in essence, there will be nothing to worry about.
So, if He doesn't give you fear, what does He give you?
He gives you Power (Phillipians 4:13), Love (1 Corinthians 13:8), and a Sound Mind (1 Corinthians 1:30). In fact, if you look, you find a bunch of examples where God says he will share his Power, Love and Wisdom with us (do a bible search online and you will see what I mean).
Anyway, maybe this will help some people who are suffering in fear. Fear of the future. Fear of the loss of their spouse or a healthy marriage. Fear of the truth. Fear of confession. Fear of pain. Fear of whatever...
The spirit of Fear is not from God. So claim His power, Love, and Wisdom instead.
