I love Minneapolis. It's a great place to be a musician. Land of 10,000 bands, we call it.

The people are okay. Smart, usually kind and polite, and everybody seems to have a sense of humor. We can be too practical sometimes. I'd like more freaks. Here in Mpls. we have our share though.

The women are pretty. Summers are wonderful. I live in the city, five blocks from a lake, in a way cool bungalow, and my house was about half the going rate in believer's area.

Winter is another story. Nasty.

And I don't like the burbs here, but that's true pretty much everywhere.

And the accent is annoying sometimes.

Plus I love the ocean, and I could hardly be farther from it. Lake Superior is glorious though, and close.

I can recommend the UK - for a year or so for history students - and thats about it.

House prices have gone crazy in anyplace anyone would want to live over here, we brits are a miserable., complaining lot. Waiting staff are rude and poor, food is highly variable. Climate is great for growing apples and wheat, pretty rotten for humans.

Theres good stuff - like almost free healthcare and education, but I'd rather live somewhere warm and friendly.

I live in a house that is sited in the grounds of an 11th century castle ( now a zoo!). We get lions roaring on the breeze waking us up in the morning !

Its OK but I want to live in Austin, Tx or mebbe even Fla., say the pinellas in to Tampa or down to Fort Myers.

Doubt if it will happen though.

RAG -

My dad was from Flat River, Missouri. Used to spend many summers down in MO as a child.

I remember all the hills, rivers with rope bridges and ropes for swinging into the river...oh yes and the caves.

The people were warm and friendly.

Don't know if I could stand the summer heat now but it sure is a beautiful state!

hmmmm....IvoryIvy....attended North Central College by any chance?

Parkview Pizza (greaseview pizza) still around?

How about a walk around Cantigny?

Fox Valley Mall?

Got married in Naperville, back when it was a tad smaller in size.

Weaver...ufff dah!!! Minoqua neighbors! Nice place to visit, but I sure wish my parents would move. Snowmobiling in winter and fishing anytime are great, but it seems all trails lead to a bar up there. Not much up there but too much time on one's hands.

Where is a great place to live? With my spouse.

Now if you like NASCAR, North Carolina is a pretty good place to live, just not near the hurricane prone coast. And the mountians and the ocean beaches, not to mention a few really good golf courses, are very close by. Gotta love the mountain vistas and color changes in the fall along the Blue Ridge Parkway! Of course, if PIZZA is your all consuming passion, nothing beats Gino's East in downtown Chicago!

Ivory--are you by the train station? Sounds like you'll have a great time with kjb when she's back in town.

FH--I attended North Central for a semester when we moved here. Loved it!! In fact, I'm considering getting my teaching certificate there in the future.

Not sure if there's a Parkview Pizza here any more, but we do have our own Gino's East on Washington. As for Fox Valley Mall, my 13 year old doesn't feel that we frequent it nearly as often as we should

Austin, Texas is a GREAT place to live. It's the state capitol so there are LOTS of government-type jobs. The University of Texas is there. Lots of nice neighborhoods. Large lake (even has a nude area called Hippy Hollow -- must be 18+ to enter that area.) Cost of housing is excellent --$150's to $200's. The landscape is not flat like most of you think when you hear "Texas". It's actually very nice rolling hills that are covered with blue bonnets & indian paint brushes (flowers) in the Spring. Texans are very friendly and, as you can see, we love to brag about our state. Come visit us, Believer. I enjoy reading your posts. Texas is full of great looking men!

I agree that Austin has been by far one of the best places I've lived! So much to do, and a lot of it is FREE. Traffic on I35 at rushhour sucks like a Dyson, tho.

Corpus Christi and surrounding area is WAY cool. Nothing like getting off work and feeling like you're on vacation, imo. Media price for homes is $120k, and the cost of living here is WAY low compared to most of the other states.

Believer, now I want to move. Anywhere is better than 2 country miles from OM and fam.

Weaver, I will not be moving NORTH, no BFE in my future, but I loved your sell on the great UP. You forgot, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do up there, and that coming from a homebody is pretty sad.

NASCAR, YUCK, no NC for me then.

I love Colo. I have lots of family there. Maybe we could move there. Or maybe Austin, will I talk like them though if I move there?

MI is beautiful right now, we have so many beautiful trees, all turning bright colors, it is the peak of the color season, they actually have news updates on the color level this time of year. But this good ole state is about to turn on us, cold, frigid temps are on its way, and lots of snow. BURRRRR

Fun post, it was fun to read from Ya all. (practicing just in case.)

I grew up in Montana. The mountainous part. Would like to go back there, too. However, Seattle is pretty darn nice. I don’t mind the rain (makes for good skiing in the mountains) and it keeps the Californians at bay…

Know how to tell the weather in Seattle? Look towards Mt Rainier. If you can’t see it, it’s raining. If you can see it, it’s about to rain.

Believer...how about Tennessee....

I live in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains. We're just beginning to see the fall leaves change, enjoying an obsession with college football, and preparing for a big winter..maybe we'll get a snow this year and it will last longer than an hour... (when it does snow, the whole town shuts down because we have no idea how to drive in snow)

Summers are long-our kids will at times wear shorts until the end of October. Pumpkins are everywhere and fall festivals are everywhere. There's a church on every corner. They run the spectrum from tiny to mega...

I live 1.5 hours from the Chattanooga Choo Choo, 30 minutes from Pigeon Forge/Dollywood-yes Dolly Parton's theme park, which is down the road from Gatlinburg, and 3 hours from Nashville.

During WWII, nuclear bombs were made in nearby Oak Ridge. We're still dealing with the radioactive material they dumped in our lakes..yes no place is perfect...we glow from time to time... We have many beautiful lakes, we just throw the fish back when we catch them...

Family is important here. We live a slower pace. There's a gentility about the south that can only be understood if you live here. Manners are important but only because it tells someone how much you care about them. You can tell because when we say "you" we include "all."

Believer-how about a move to the great state of North Carolina. We have it all. I live 2 hours away from the mountains and 4 hours from the ocean. A great place to live and work. Great people, great southern home cooking and BBQ.

FH, I've attended NCC off and on for the past 5 years...

I live about 10 minutes north of Fox Valley Mall (now Westfield Shopping Center).

I don't think that pizza place is still there, and boy has Naperville changed in the past 8 years since I first visited here...

Where did you get married here?

I used to live accross the street from Ss. Peter and Paul in the same building as the deli before we moved into his parents house just south of dt Naperville.

Oh, and I am near the train station. I moved from being 2 blocks from one station to about 4 blocks from the next. It's great being able to go into the city when you like. (Not that I've done that much)

ivoryivy,

How weird! I have been spending a lot of time yesterday and today looking online at the new housing communities being built in Aurora. There is one in particular that is a mile or two west of Fox Valley Mall. I guess it's Aurora bordering Naperville. How is Aurora?

I am from the Chicago area (Oak Forest in particular), but currently live in Philadelphia. I am dying to get back to Chicago! mmmm Gino's East! mmmmmm Giordano's! mmmmm Lou Malnati's! I'd give my right arm for some deep dish pizza right about now!

As for Philadelphia, yes there's a lot of history, it's close to New York City (2 hours), close to the ocean (1 1/2 hours) and close to DC (2 1/2) hours, but the traffic is horrible, it costs a fortune to live here, and the people are not very ... um ... nice (IMHO).

My second vote is for Colorado. I lived in the Denver area for about a year when I was in the military. Colorado is beautiful. I also miss the low humidity - the winter didn't feel so cold and the summer didn't feel so hot.
