I am just curious how much gas prices differ in other states.

I live in central NY, not the city and yesterday it was $2.20 a gallon. We about fell over. Never did I think I would see the day when it would be that much. If anything I thought it would go down by now.

I live in Chula Vista, CA [part of greater San Diego county] and the gas prices here vary from $2.19 to $2.59. Time to trade the old gas guzzling minivan for an economy car.

Funny you should ask that.... (I just worked on this subject this morning).

I live in Canada, but very close to the US border (can be filling up 15 mins. from my home).

In my locale, today, the cost is 86 cents/litre. There are 3.785 litres per gallon. That equals $3.25/gallon Canadian$.

Let's change that into USD....= $2.59/gallon

That is how much I pay in Canada.

In the US, right across the border from me, the rate is about $2.20/gallon. However, about 7 km's away (a few minutes) is a native reservation, and they sell their gas for $1.98/gallon. Needless to say, I plan to fill up there.

This week was the first week I ever did that (I just moved here)....but I think I'll be visiting the US to fill up about weekly now. I will save (over Canadian prices) about 60cents per gallon.

Fortunately I can go online prior to my trip, and confirm that there are no delays at the border. On busy weekends it can take hours...i will NOT go then of course. During the week, mid-morning, normally clear sailing, as the trucks go in their own lanes, and those are the slower ones.

Average price is about $1.93.

But try asking those in Great Britain or Europe. You'll really get a shock and little "sympathy" for what Americans are having to deal with.

I don't like the high prices anymore than anyone else does, but it's reality today, so we have to adjust and make some changes.

Supply and demand are the operative things. If we want to change it in the long run, it's going to take a willingness to be less dependent upon "foreign oil" and a willingness to invest more in exploration and development of our own resources, as well as alternative sources of energy.

In the UK its 85p per litre. WIth 4.2 litres per US gallon thats £3.50 per US gallon or $5.70 per Gallon.

Suck on THAT.

janet thats true.But just bear in mind - if every V8 SUV was changed for a 4 cyl diesel SUV the US would not be dependent on foreign oil EVER.Splendid isolation !

LOL...and even if the Michael Moore stat is overstated (and it might well be), it certainly has some validity.

I've never driven a V8. I have driven V4's, great in the city, on the highway, not so good! I stick with V 6's now.

Also, I'm tall, and little mini cars make me cramp up. 2 of my 3 kids are now taller than me too. We're a joke in a mini car.

Wouldn't it be great though if nobody depended on middle eastern oil. Then we could deal with them on a "not so desperate" level, the market price would shoot downwards fast. But, dream on!

For Regular gas it is $1.79 here where I live..but when we were driving down Hollywood Blvd, the first price of gas I saw in LA was $2.59 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

Wow, prices are really differing. This has been interesting. I also drive a V8, dodge durango. Thinking of trading in for a I6 chevy trailblazer.

Gas is about $1.95 here. Drive a few miles north towards Seattle though and it's above $2.00.

The cheapest here in RWC, ca $2.40. But I saw major stations charging around $2.65. I know it is more expensive in San Francisco, at least $.15 more. Supply and Demand ... then some gaugin' too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="images/icons/blush.gif" /> .

Hey Mom of 1....are we both talking about Smokin Joe's? It was the first time I went there (Thurs.). My "staples" (bread, milk, eggs, poultry) are much cheaper in the US. Funny though, butter is much more expensive...go figure! There is not much selection at Smokin'Joes, but I found what I needed. Also got a nice shirt blouse for $5.99. But, I'll be going there mainly for the gas. Don't smoke, but I understand that tobacco is a deal there too (guess that's why he's Smokin). I think jewellry is a good deal there too (according to my SIL), but I don't buy jewellry...too many other things to buy ahead of that on the list.

Do you gas up there too?

I live right outside Ithaca, home of Cornell University. I have heard of smoking joes before, but I think it is the one south of us in PA or on the border there.

We are about $1.80 out here in east Texas, but I just came back from central Illinois and it was $2.05 out there. I think the difference is probably due to gas taxes.

ML I think you are right. In NY we get a sin tax for everything. Cigarettes, booze, gas, well all tobacco products, anything that is considered a sin is taxed here. Isn't that strange? Must be a sin to drive......we get gouged really bad here too isn't that considered a sin?
