I'm a convert! This rock-baby, grew up in the hippie days with Led Zepplin, Doors, Beatles, The Who, Moody Blues,... girl is INTO COUNTRY! YEEHAW!
H and I got back from Nashville today. We went to the Grand Ole Oprey last night just because we thought we should have that experience. Didn't think I'd love it, but I did. Those country musicians know how to write about As. The first song was called "Forgiveness". It was about this W not being able to forgive her H cause he had an A. Then there was the song called "Cheatin" about the W who would never cheat on her H because she wouldn't risk him ever leaving her. Then there was the song that was the exact conversation I had with H earlier in the day. How the WSH would be peacefully asleep thinking about his OW while his W would be turned towards the wall, crying. Not knowing why her H was so distant, and just wanting some love. Wearing the red negligee(sp?) she wore on their honeymoon, but he never even notices. When he wakes up a note is on the bed, and she's finally gone.
I'm going out tomorrow and buying me some country music. I'm serious! Those musicians know how to fiddle and play those guitars! And they know all about cheatin, lyin, and betrayin. CV

CV,
Yep, I rediscovered country music after my husband's A. The music just pulled on my heart's strings and many expressed just what I was feeling. Of course, I had to change the words to some of the songs. "All my exes live in Texas" became "all my husband's exes live in Texas. Texas is the place I'd really love to be, but all my husband's exes live in Texas. That's why I can't be where I want to be."
CV, I've followed your story, but haven't posted because your feelings are so close to my own at times. After three years, I still don't understand how my H could have lied to me so easily.
Let me know some of your favorite country songs.
Songbird

"I Don't Think She's In Love Anymore" by J Marc Bailey www.jmarcbailey.comI came home late again last night Really it was this morning. I had my alibi down pat; I was gonna be charming. But the locks were all changed And I was stuck outside With a key that no longer fit. There was a note on the door that said Adios, sayanara, Goodbye this is it! Chorus: I don't think she's in love anymore She's hanging up her telephone and locking her door. I don't think she wants to hear anymore of my lines I don't think she's in love anymore. She's not buying my lines like before. The only thing she wants out of me now is "Goodbye!". I went down to a phone booth, Almost down to crying. I was ready to spill the truth; I see she's tired of my lying. I was all ready to beg and plead and turn over a brand new leaf. But the second she heard it was me on the line I heard CLICK she hung up on me! Chorus x 2 He's got the WS fog down to a tee!

Hey,
You talkn’ to a country boy here. Grew up in Montana. Ten CW stations to one of any other kind. First thing I do when I cross the sate line visiting home is find a CW station.
DDay was five days before Christmas, wife moved out so DS and I went back home for Christmas. On the way there my truck engine blew 40 miles from nowhere. Dog got very sick (didn’t die though) and I developed an aneurysm in my retina. I remember thinking if only I had something about a train happen to me I could write a hit CW song.
I still wear my boots & hat every once in a while.

I absolutely love country! I like all kinds of music but country is a deep fav of mine! And you're exactly right, CV. They sure know how to write the songs about cheatin' and lyin'. My fav country artist is Loretta Lynn & she sure as heck knew about cheatin'. Her H Doo was one heck of a womanizer! And her songs showed it. One of my favs is You Ain't Woman Enough .
Love in Christ, Y

Perhaps these are a bit more mainstream than what you're referring to but I just the same;country.

CV, at the risk of bringing you down on this rather upbeat thread, I was reminded of the first time I heard "Unchained Melody". I had heard the song over the years but at my Mom's funeral I saw my Dad sitting by himself singing "I'll be coming home, wait for me". A defining moment for me, though I know it's not country.
For myself I remember sitting in the car at a park listening over and over to, Willie Nelson's, You Were Always On My Mind some months after D-Day.

Funny you should ask about country music.....my daughter turned me on to country music 2 1/2 years ago before my EA. When I was in the middle of the EA, I thought that no other music but country music understood all the pain and heartbreak I was going thru at the time (WS fog, I know!). And during recovery, I thought that no other music but country could understand about renewal and rebuilding. So, I am a country music convert, but avoid songs that remind me of my most foolish moments and focus on songs that show how strong love can be. Of course, songe like "Friends in Low Places" are fun just because!

I have not been able to listen to the radio since WH left. Only to the christian station. But, prior to, country is it. It speaks to my heart and to the way I feel about God, country and family. Other than christian music, country is the best! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="images/icons/cool.gif" />

Fell for country about 10 years ago - I love it...I rarely listen to anything else...so many of the songs reflect my feelings good, bad, or ugly everyday...
Funny, WH - GF must be into it too - he has 2 new CD's (he never buys them) Shania Twain & Martina McBride - and he's starting to watch MCT..How dumb does he think I am..hahahh

I love CW, but I can't listen to "FM country". Yech. Adding steel guitar to a pop song don't make it country. There are still some good eggs at the Opry, I have to say.
Most of Patsy Cline's songs are about cheatin'. "Strange" is my favorite.
Loretta Lynn's new CD is amazingly good, and of course there's a cheatin' song on it. I posted the lyrics on Shul's thread a while back.
It would have been interesting if Coal Miner's Daughter had been more honest about Doo's philandering.

I like some CW, but I'm still mostly a King Crimson/Moody Blues and Peter Gabriel fan.
General Sherman said once that he knew only 2 songs:
"One of them is Yankee Doodle, and the other one isn't."

I just want to be honest here, I ain't giving up rock n roll. There's nothing like blasting that music at full blast, especially while driving, to either let off some steam or lift my mood. Plus my 2 teenage sons told me they will disown me if I start playing country in our house. I've tried to educate them that all country isn't twangy. Thet're not convinced.
Anywho, there were some old timers at the Oprey, Porter Wagoner and Little Jimmy Dickens. I swear when the spotlight hit their sparkly suits it was blinding. Little Jimmy's guitar was bigger than little Jimmy. Those boys still know how to jam! And it is very sad to say that I actually was singing Achey Breaky Heart with Billy Ray Cyrus. Sad, embarrassing, but true. If I wasn't sitting in the balconey I would have rushed the stage with all the other country girls. Thanks God he got rid of that mullett. H said his 1st song was "I want my Mullett back." Luckily I was in the bathroom for that song.
I think I'm doing some country babble now. When I get my CDs I'll share some of those memorable lyrics. Oh, thanks for sharing all your favorite country tunes with me too. CV

I too am a recent convert to CW after having it (re)introduced to me by my daughter...no small feat considering I'm a child of the 60's (attended Woodstock / met Clapton b4 he became "guitar god").
IMHO, finest song ever written - Dolly Pardon - I Will Always Love You.
Current favorite lyrics - Trisha Yearwood's - I Would've Loved you Anyway
Unfortunately, I'm unable to "shake" the Righteous Brothers You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling from my brain of late!

THEY GONE COUNTRY..yea..there they come!! (Alan Jackson)
Grew up in Nebraska and Colorado now in SoCal but still listen and buy country. Best new group is "Big and Rich", they do "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy". ALL the songs on their CD are good. Also Brad Pasley's latest CD is very good.
Brings tears to my eyes too often lately, though.

I never got on with country music I'm afraid, well, other than Steve Earle and the Dukes that is. I did get wrecked on Printers alley in Nashville a few year ago though with a large Texan gay friend of mine.
The lyrics are certainly white blues though, and portray infidelity and love very well in th ebest songs.
Not QUITE country but I found it ironic that my FWWs and OMs 'song' was Shania Twain 'Youre still the one I want".
Grrr...

Ron, Clapton is THE KING. H and I have seen him twice in the past 3 years. The man is awesome on that guitar. No flash, just makes it sing. How did you meet him at Woodstock?
Bob, on Monday we went to the Bourbon Boogy Blues club (something like that) on Printers Alley. We saw a great Texas Blues band. The lead guitarist and also the name of the band is Hamilton Loomis. This guy was amazing. He's be playing a blues song and then go into a perfect Led Zepplin or Jimi Hendrix series of songs. I got one of his albums because it had this song he played called Voodoo Doll. As soon as I get all the words down I'll post them. I'm sure you will appreciate the words if you are in a bit of an angry, vengeful mode. Not that I am promoting those feelings mind you. CV
