Hmm,
Without making this theological, but where is baptism a mandatory step to get into heaven? I haven't ever seen that. I know it is a logical, progressive, purification/santification sequence of events...but, Heaven simply requires belief in Christ, at least, that is what my KJ Bible tells me!

Tell you father that.

If I were to go to all of my nieces and nephews baptisms...man, I'd have to quit my job. If you relationship is strained with your brother, wouldn't sitting down and talking to him one on one be much more productive than being a face in the crowd?

Andrew, really? So, your ww calls you and asks you out to a game/movie, you agree to go, then, you get a call from a brother asking you to go shake hands with the president (typically a once in a lifetime type event)...which you gonna do?

This is such a ridiculous conversation. You know, perhaps your husband has such contempt towards your family precisely because of reasons like this. Even where he is trying to 'do right' they twist him into something bad. I'd be pissed too if I were him.

Wait a minute...I'm confused. Baptisms are usually like, early in the morning...football games are usually in the afternoon.... why not both? You don't have to hang around for a reception, go see the baptism, excuse yourself politely following the service, and skiddadle to the football game.

The game don't start til 3 in the afternoon... I'd think you could drive across most of the state and still make it in time. Maybe that is why they are upset? | | |

Actually, it does say in the bible you must be baptized. Maybe not in those specific terms.
john 3:1-5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God

Not that that has any bearing on this thread...

KMEJ,
I'll preface this by saying I *don't* know the full dynamics of your family nor your current sitch with your H.

I'd pick the football game (and I hate football). Why? Because your H said that your putting him second was a problem for him. This is an opportunity to demonstrate to him that you are serious about listening to him and putting him first.

When you married your H, you LEFT your father and mother and you and your H became one.

It's not like your H is wanting you to stay home and rake leaves. He's been planning this game for a LONG time based on what YOU said YOU wanted.

Yeah, my opinion is worth what you paid for it, and my feelings won't be hurt if you toss it in the bin

RookKev-The kick off is at noon, the baptism is at 11. Not enough time to do both. I wish there were or I would do both. My dad is going to take the children to it, so at least they will be present. I have decided to go to the game and suffer the consequences later with my family. I wish they would understand. However when it comes to H, nothing is good enough That comes with the choices he has made.

Dad still is upset however- offering to take me to a speaker tonight about living for God. He means well- I know he does. He is a good man.

Again thank you all for responding. I have decided to take a stand and do what it is I feel is best for my M.
