It's such a bummer. I go to work last Wednesday, all happy because of Thanksgiving and wouldn't you know it, I get laid off! They were nice though and gave me two weeks severance.

I don't know if this is normal but I feel betrayed. There are many other there at the company that were horribly lazy and they let go of me, and I actually did my work, and did it well! I guess my ego is a bit broken.

Any suggestions on how to cope with this? I am going to look for another job but I am thinking with Christmas coming up there won't be much out there. Emotionally though, I'm a mess...

What kind of market do you live in and what kind of work are you looking for or specialize in? A good site I use is www.monster.com , I use it all the time and find that i'm usually not out of work more then a month or so .

I live outside Los Angeles so I am hoping to find something in the San Gabriel valley. I'm definitely going to use monster.com and California's unemployment office has a great on-line resource as well.

First though I have to update my resume. I have always been an administrative assistant but I can do so much more. I was a Technical Writer at one time and I can do that but I don't have the college experience to back it up. I don't want to go back to school either.

I want to start my own baking business somehow. I don't want to work in a bakery per say but I would love to cater for people, just desserts though. I made several pies for people last week for Thanksgiving and I have a lot to make for Christmas. If I could turn that into something I would be in heaven!

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I was laid off last year from a job that I hated, but the pay was good so I stuck around and was miserable. Getting laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me. I found a job that I love, working for people that I like and respect. PLUS, since I started my new job the day after I left my old job, I was never without a paycheck so I spent my big fat severace check on a new deck and hot tub! Maybe this will be the push you need to find the right opportunity for you. I know it's stressful, but you'll get through it. Good luck!

Chackler, don't have any advice on finding a job. If I did I'd give it to my STBX.

If you get a chance look at my thread today... I'd like your insight.

Thanks, and good luck.
