I'm going 2 post some of my favorite love songs here, just for fun (don't worry, ol' 2long isn't getting silly-sappy, there won't be any "wings" songs posted by me!) ...but you all know I'm just a big ol' softy!

Post some of your favorites, 2!

The title of this thread is the one I'm going 2 start with:

"So Long Ago, So Clear" -Vangelis, from the "Heaven and Hell" album.

"Once, we did run
How we chased a million stars
and touched as only one can

Once, we did play
How the past delivered you
Amidst our youth we'd dream away, away

As if I knew the words I'm sure you'll hear
Of how we met as you recall so clear

Once, we did love
Long ago how did I forget
Holding you so closely

Look, how I move
Chance would have me glance at you
To know how you move me, me

All barriers fall around us as we hear
Of memories known and matters so long ago, so clear

Once, we did run
How we chased a million stars
And touched as only one can"

"Sweetest Day" -Control Freq

"If there were words as large as my love I'd say them.
If there were notes as beautiful as you I'd play them.
And if I could make the world stop for you I'd do it,
Take your hand, ease your pain and get you through it.

Today is the sweetest day to be with you.

God only knows how you would appraise me,
But words cannot describe how you amaze me.
If I could conquer all your fears for you I'd show you,
That I'm the one, I'll lead the way just like I told you.

Today is the sweetest day to be with you.

Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
'Cause you're mine.
Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
In my time.
Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
'Cause you're mine.

Could I have failed to let you know how much you mean to me?
Is there someway I could show you, a way to make you see?

Everything I do I do for you
Everything I do I do for you

Today is the sweetest day

Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
'Cause you're mine.
Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
'Cause you're mine.

If there were words as great as my love I'd say them.
If there were notes as beautiful as you I'd play them.
And if I could make the word stop for you I'd do it.
Take your hand, ease your pain and get you through it.

God only knows how you would appraise me,
But words cannot describe how you amaze me.
Misunderstandings, bitter tastes,
Hurtful words spoken in haste.
May I tell you now that life without you is no life at all?
You are my love and that is all.
And that is all.

Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
'Cause you're mine.
Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
In my time.
Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
'Cause you're mine.
Today is the sweetest day I've ever ever had
In my time.
Today is the sweetest day."

Been listening to this tune a lot lately....

"Bless The Broken Road"
From Rascal Flatts' "Feels Like Today" album

"I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

I think about the years I spent just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You've been there you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

Now I’m just rollin’ home into my lover's arms
This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you"

"Perfect Love"

by Marc Cohn

Down by the boathouse at Shaker Lake
When there wasn't nothing but love to make,
They were two young lovers wishing on the stars above.

Well, they carved their initials in an old birch tree
with a heart and an arrow and a 'sixty-three.
You had to be blind not to see...
It was a perfect love.

It was a perfect love.
Ooh, yeah, yeah.

Well, they worked one summer together at the '64 World's Fair.
They met Robert Kennedy there.
Well, that was...
right before the fall.

And they saved up a little bit of money for his career,
And they talked about the future underneath the giant sphere.
And all around them, the little voices were singing
it's a small world after all.
Yes it is,
small world after all.
And it was...
perfect love.

It was a perfect love.
Ooh, yeah, yeah.
(Under the moon and stars above it was a perfect love)

Now they were dizzy from dancing on Rockaway Beach.
They came to Rockaway.
Yeah, and everything they dreamed of was still within reach;
dreaming...
Dreaming as the years roll by,
like they always do.

Well, they had their share of hard times, too.
But whatever they were, they never let it get them down.

Now, they just go walking down a country lane;
See the leaves changing in the misty rain.
And only one thing remains the same, woah.
Ooh, yeah, yeah.

Just a perfect love
Ooh, yeah, yeah.
(Under the moon and stars above it was a perfect love)

REPEAT AND FADE

The Cure - Love Song

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am whole again

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am young again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am fun again

However far away
I will always love you
However long I stay
I will always love you
Whatever words I say
I will always love you
I will always love you

Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again

However far away
I will always love you
However long I stay
I will always love you
Whatever words I say
I will always love you
I will always love you

The Cure - Pictures Of You

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you
That I almost believe that they're real
I've been living so long with my pictures of you
That I almost believe that the pictures are
All I can feel

Remembering
You standing quiet in the rain
As I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell in
Holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering
You running soft through the night
You were bigger and brighter and wider than snow
And screamed at the make-believe
Screamed at the sky
And you finally found all your courage
To let it all go

Remembering
You fallen into my arms
Crying for the death of your heart
You were stone white
So delicate
Lost in the cold
You were always so lost in the dark
Remembering
You how you used to be
Slow drowned
You were angels
So much more than everything
Hold for the last time then slip away quietly
Open my eyes
But I never see anything

If only I'd thought of the right words
I could have held on to your heart
If only I'd thought of the right words
I wouldn't be breaking apart
All my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I never hold on to your heart
Looking so long for the words to be true
But always just breaking apart
My pictures of you

There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to feel you deep in my heart
There was nothing in the world
That I ever wanted more
Than to never feel the breaking apart
All my pictures of you

This remains my favorite love song - even after all the songs I have heard. Like many songs, it's the music that makes it.

Make it with you - Bread

Hey have you ever tried,
Really reaching out for the other side?
I may be climbing on rainbows
But, baby here goes.

Dreams they’re for those who sleep,
Life is for us to keep,
And if you’re wond’ring
What this song is leading to

I want to make it with you
I really think that we can make it girl.

No, you don’t know me well,
In ev’ry little thing only time will tell,
If you believe the things that I do.
And we’ll see it through.

Life can be short or long,
Love can be right or wrong,
And if I choose the one
I’d like to help me through,

I’d like to make it with you
I really think that we can make it girl.

Baby you know that
Dreams they’re for those who sleep,
Life is for us to keep
And if I choose the one
I’d like to help me through,

I’d like to make it with you
I really think that we can make it girl.

Cry if you want to

Holly Cole Trio

Cry if you want
I wont tell you not to
I won?t try to cheer you up
Ill just be here if you want me

It?s no use in keeping a stiff upper lip
You can weep you can sleep you can loosen your grip
You can frown you can drown and go down with the ship
You cry if you want to
Don?t ever apologize venting your pain
Its something to me you don?t need to explain
I don?t need to know why
I don?t think it?s insane
You can cry if you want to

The windows are closed
The neighbors aren?t home
If it?s better with me than to do it alone
Ills draw all the curtains and unplug the phone
You can cry if you want

You can stare at the ceiling and tear at your hair
Swallow your feelings and stager and swear
You could show things and throw things and I wouldn?t care
You can cry if you want to

I won?t make fun of you
I won?t tell any one
I won?t analyze what you do or you should have done
I won?t advise you to go and have fun
You can cry if you want to

Well it?s empty and ugly and terribly sad
I can?t feel what you feel but I no it feel bad
I no that its real and it makes you so mad
You could cry

Cry if you want to I won?t tell you not to
I won?t try and cheer you up
Ill just be here if you want me; to be
Near you

Very cool, folks!!!

I realized that I really love love songs. Weird, huh?

Now, I can't go off and hang drywall without quoting King Crimson, now, can I??

"Lady of the Dancing Water" -King Crimson

"Grass in your hair stretched like a lion in the sun
Restlessly turned moistened your mouth with your tonque.
Pouring my wine your eyes caged mine - glowing
Touching your face my fingers strayed - knowing
I called you lady of the dancing water.

Blow autumn leaves, shed to the fire where you laid me.
Burn slow to ash, just as my days now seem to be.
I feel you still always your eyes - glowing
Remembered hours, salt, earth and flowers - flowing.
Farewell my lady of the dancing water."

And, of course, Moody Blues!

"For My Lady" - Moody Blues

"My boat sails stormy seas,
Battles oceans filled with tears.
At last my port's in view
Now that I've discovered you.

Oh I'd give my life so lightly
For my gentle lady.
Give it freely and completely
To my lady.

As life goes drifting by
Like a breeze she'll gently sigh
And slowly bow her head
Then you'll hear her softly cry.

Oh I'd give my life so lightly
For my gentle lady.
Give it freely and completely
To my lady.

Words that you say when we're alone,
Though actions speak louder than words,
But all I can say is I love you so
To drive away all my hurt.

Oh I'd give my life so lightly
For my gentle lady.
Give it freely and completely
To my lady.

Set sail towards the sun;
Feel the warmth that's just begun.
Share each and every dream,
They belong to everyone.

Oh I'd give my life so lightly
For my gentle lady.
Give it freely and completely
To my lady. "

Okay, ready to cry in my beer. Here's one.

He Stopped Loving Her Today
George Jones
_______

He said "I'll love you till I die",
she told him "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by,
she still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall,
went half-crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all,
hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
dated nineteen sixty-two
He had underlined in red
every single "I love you"

I went to see him just today,
oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away, first time
I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

(Spoken)
You know,
she came to see him one last time.
Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would.
And it kept runnin' through my mind
"this time he's over her for good."

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

Hmmmm. Opening another beer.

When a man loves a woman,
Can't keep his mind on nothin' else,
He'd change the world for the good thing he's found.
If she is bad, he can't see it,
She can do no wrong,
Turn his back on his best friend if he put her down.
When a man loves a woman,
He'll spend his very last dime
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs.
He'd give up all his comforts
And sleep out in the rain,
If she said that's the way
It ought to be.
Well, this man loves you, woman.
I gave you everything I have,
Tryin' to hold on to your heartless love.
Baby, please don't treat me bad.
When a man loves a woman,
Down deep in his soul,
She can bring him such misery.
If she is playin' him for a fool,
He's the last one to know.
Lovin' eyes can never see.
When a man loves a woman
he can do her no wrong,
he can never want
some other girl.
Yes,When a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels,
'Cause baby, baby, you're my world
When a man loves a woman....

Believer,

That George Jones song is the saddest song I have ever heard. It makes me tear up every time I hear it (which isn't often since I left Oklahoma 20 years ago ).

Beautiful, but oh so sad!

You keep opening them beers, and there won't be anything for ol' 2long 2 drink - 'ceppin' for these $5/pop jobbies in my pricey hotel room here in Sam Frank's Disco!

Fat tire is okay, but there's only one bottle! after this, it's Heineken in a can!!

...do they still believe that aluminum has anything 2 do with alzheimers?

Now mind you, I don't want this 2 be primarly a sad love song thread, but there are a few that I really like, such as this one by the late Harry Chapin:

"Taxi" - Harry Chapin

"It was raining hard in 'Frisco,
I needed one more fare to make my night.
A lady up ahead waved to flag me down,
She got in at the light.

Oh, where you going to, my lady blue,
It's a shame you ruined your gown in the rain.
She just looked out the window, and said
"Sixteen Parkside Lane".

Something about her was familiar
I could swear I'd seen her face before,
But she said, "I'm sure you're mistaken"
And she didn't say anything more.

It took a while, but she looked in the mirror,
And she glanced at the license for my name.
A smile seemed to come to her slowly,
It was a sad smile, just the same.
And she said, "How are you Harry?"
I said, "How are you Sue?
Through the too many miles
and the too little smiles
I still remember you."

It was somewhere in a fairy tale,
I used to take her home in my car.
We learned about love in the back of the Dodge,
The lesson hadn't gone too far.
You see, she was gonna be an actress,
And I was gonna learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off to find the sky.

Oh, I've got something inside me,
To drive a princess blind.
There's a wild man, wizard,
He's hiding in me, illuminating my mind.
Oh, I've got something inside me,
Not what my life's about,
Cause I've been letting my outside tide me,
Over 'till my time, runs out.

Baby's so high that she's skying,
Yes she's flying, afraid to fall.
I'll tell you why baby's crying,
Cause she's dying, aren't we all.

There was not much more for us to talk about,
Whatever we had once was gone.
So I turned my cab into the driveway,
Past the gate and the fine trimmed lawns.
And she said we must get together,
But I knew it'd never be arranged.
And she handed me twenty dollars,
For a two fifty fare, she said
"Harry, keep the change."
Well another man might have been angry,
And another man might have been hurt,
But another man never would have let her go...
I stashed the bill in my shirt.

And she walked away in silence,
It's strange, how you never know,
But we'd both gotten what we'd asked for,
Such a long, long time ago.

You see, she was gonna be an actress
And I was gonna learn to fly.
She took off to find the footlights,
And I took off for the sky.
And here, she's acting happy,
Inside her handsome home.
And me, I'm flying in my taxi,
Taking tips, and getting stoned,
I go flying so high, when I'm stoned."

2long,

Sorry for the thread jack.

Believer, this is for you.

Now you say you're lonely
You cried the whole night through
Well you can cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you

Now you say you're sorry
For being so untrue
Well you can cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you

You drove me nearly drove me
out of my head
While you
Never shed
a tear
Remember
I remember all that you said
Told me love was to plebian
Told me you were through with me and now
You say you're sorry
Well just to prove you do
Come on and
Cry me a river
Cry me a river
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you
I cried a river over you

2long said....
I realized that I really love love songs. Weird, huh?

well ever since I read that...I have had the following STUCK in my head

You’d think that people would have had enough of silly love songs.
But I look around me and I see it isn’t so.
Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs.
And what’s wrong with that?
I’d like to know, ’cause here I go again
I love you, I love you,
I love you, I love you,
I can’t explain the feeling’s plain to me, say can’t you see?
Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me
Now can’t you see,
What’s wrong with that
I need to know, ’cause here I go again
I love you, I love you

Love doesn’t come in a minute,
Sometimes it doesn’t come at all
I only know that when I’m in it
It isn’t silly, no, it isn’t silly, love isn’t silly at all.

How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?

How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)
How can I tell you about my loved one?
(I love you)

thank you 2long
thank you mr. mCcartney...
thank you very much...
