Re-Evaluate Entire Life?
I feel like my entire life is being flipped around by my WH affair. Well, actually IT IS! Is this normal? I am now wondering if I am in the right career field, living in the right state, etc. I feel like I am questioning everything in my life. I live in VA (virtue of the Navy) and since my WH is due to get out of the Navy in May, we had plans to move to Maine. Well now I am wondering if I should still go home, or maybe should I even go home now and not wait until May. Then I wonder about my college degree. I am in the Health Information Technology Program (medical records coding). My Mother is in that field. I printed out all of the programs offered at the colleges in Maine, and I am now thinking I want to do something different...but what? Now I have to think of a one income family.. They have associate degrees for pharmacy technician, physical therapy assistant, accounting, loan officer.... They all sound like something I am interested in, but none more then another. I am so lost.... Danielle

YOur thoughts, fears, and concerns are all NORMAL. YOU WILL SURVIVE THIS. If you have skills in medical technology/coding...you will ALWAYS have a job. YOu should think about an associates degree that you can BRIDGE into a Bachelor's degree and so on. Don't just think of the immediate pay/job. Think outside the box here. This may be a chance to change your future professionaly in a big POSITIVE way. <small>[ December 15, 2004, 07:30 PM: Message edited by: lemonman ]</small>

Yes..big turmoil makes everyone take stock.
I concur with Lemonman..if you are faced with single parenthood..you really will need at least a full 4 year degree. Truly. Not to be an elitist rag, but it is extremely difficult to adequately provide for a family on a tech degree.
You would be suprised how much aid is available for women in precisely your position...look into a state college BS program. They often have student housing..daycare..work study programs [credit + $$$]. Aim high..you have nothing to lose by doing so.

You mentioned loan officer. First you have a college degree (if I read that right), so you could get a bank job right now, just start as a teller or personal banker. If anything, get into mortgage banking, more $$. Second, don't bother, banks pay like crap. An L.O. in Maine would make about $35k starting, I guess, where I live about $24k. (Yes, a banker talking here.)
You hit the nail on the head when you thought of pharmacy tech. That would pay as well if not better than a bank job. Plus it is a growing field. Banks pay there VP's well, after 15 years of service.
I have followed your posts and can say that though all BS's on this site have been dealt raw hands, yours does stand out. You are a strong person for going through this and don't let your WH tell you any different.
Yes, you can change your life. There are lots of aid programs available as well. Go for it.
BTW, I have a perfect Xmas gift for that WH of yours...a little toy horse. He could use it to start that stable of horses him and OW are going to have on their ranch...seeing as how she's been evicted from her place. I don't know if he deserves even that!

I'm glad to see such good educational advice being given here. There are plenty of well educated people on the board - who can, if need be, give objective, sensible recommendations.
I hear some depression at play in your post - not surprisingly. So my advice is to recognised that you are 'all over the place' with your emotions, and need to make some decisions and run with them. So hard I know. But yeah, keep asking specific questions about ed options and force yourself to concentrate on a choice. Mind over matter - in this very necessary part of your life.
