Don't be surprised JL had a senior moment. He's earned it! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />
I can say this because I know what those moments are like!
How's summer going? Easier to keep that lamb hot?

Hey WAT!
Summer has been the pits. TERRIBLE weather (cold and wet) but the last couple of days have been better. Should reach 65-70 today.
Don't worry I know all about senior moments - have quite a few of them myself!

65 - 70?
I thought you folks used the "rational" temperature scale! - not that non-sensical one we use up here. Talk about "intelligent design!" <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
Speaking of stooopid, why is it that the first day of the year is so disjointed from any of the plentifully available annual-based astronomical milestones? Huh? Ever wonder about that? Why isn't the first day of the calendar year on the first day of winter (your summer)? The way it is now, we have winter twice a year! - and you get summer twice a year! Not fair!!
Maybe ol' 2long can explain this.
And another thing - I'm on a roll now - why (in the US) aren't tax day (April 15) and election day (first Tuesday in Nov.) on the same day???? Seems they should be >> we should elect the people who spend our money on the same day it's fresh in our minds. The way it is now, these two days can hardly be any further apart.

WAT, I'll need 2long here just to translate all that stuff you just said.
Yes we do use the Celcius scale and kgs for our weight, but I was translating for you guys.
It's already at 65 and it's only 9.00am. We're going to my sister's for the day. She lives on an Island off the coast of Auckland and it's always a very pleasant ferry ride. They also have a lovely view of the sea from their house so it should be a nice day all round.
I like the idea of tax date and election date being on the same day. Sure would help us make up our minds!

Well, if memeory serves me, and it doesn't some times. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> The real rational temperature is Kelvin all others are just figments of peoples constructions. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Actually, if you two will permit me I will explain Farhenheit for you. He selected a temperature range in which most humans lived. He then divided into an even 100 degrees, in keeping with the odd concept that decimals and decades were good, powers of 2 are better unless you are IBM and their computers used Hexadecimal. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> .
In any event Farhenheit scale was developed for humans and their NORMAL living environments around the world. He did not care when water boiled or froze. Now celsius is designed around when water freezes and boils, and hence if very inaccurate with respect to the human being. Beleive me people can tell the difference between 68 and 70 degrees F, but that is only 1 degree C. Anyway I believe you will find that the final determination of the "official" metric system temperature had nothing to do with "metric" as both temperatures work on a decimal system but one is spread from when water freezes 32F - 0C and when it boils 212F and 100 C, while the other is spread to where people live 0 F to 100 F, nominally.
Now for the correct temperature go to Kelvin which is has 0 at absolute zero where something has NO energy whats so ever. However, it was then extended in the same measure as C so it is not as accurate for humans either. But, of all of the things I worry about in my life where water boils is NOT one of them. I sure don't want to live at that temperature.
In short there is nothing inherently good about C unless your focus in life is the freezing and boiling of water. There is absolutely nothing "metric" about it other than it was chosen and attached to the metric measure for polictical reasons.
Ok, end of discourse. Jenny it was 70 here last week and it is winter. However, it is raining and 52 F here today or should I say 11 C here right now. My weather channel connection gives me both. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
See like the "fog" my CRS (Can't Remember S***) disease comes and goes. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
My W had a friend who was having trouble remembering things and so she went to the Doc's. He informed her that there was nothing wrong with her memory. She insisted that there was because she kept forgetting things. His response was simple. He pointed out that she "remembered" what she claimed she forgot. If she never realized she had forgotten something THEN he would be worried.
Sort of like the book title. I remembered reading the book. I remembered it had a title. I remembered it was about men and had Men in the title. I remembered the authors last name. Soooo, it guess all is not lost. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> Just temporarily misplaced. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

Good grief, JL, thanks, I'm all the wiser now about temperature. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
I was going to ask what CRS meant. I thought it was some sort of genuine disease. LOL.

Jenny,
More than you wanted to know right? My children complain of the same thing: "Don't ask Dad unless you want to hear it ALL." <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> Guilty as charged. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />
It is a disease Jenny and worse it is contagious. Each year gives you a worse dose. It would seem that you and H have escaped the dreaded CRS. More power to you.
How are you doing these days and how is your family doing? Did you all have a good Christmas? My family and I were down there during Christmas and it was strange to have Christmas during summer. We spent Christmas day at Ayers Rock, cannot remember the "correct" name for it. IT was a cool 40 C that day. Man Oh Man is that hot.
Good to see you about these parts again.
God Bless,
JL

Yep, great Christmas and everything with Rob and I is also great. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Thank you very much for that explanation of F vs C, although it did absolutely zip in helping me to understand. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
I live on the border of Canada, where I get the weather forcast on the radio in celsius and I'll be danged if even after all these years I can figure it out.
All I know is they say it will be 12 degreees tomorrow and I think "okay whatever THAT means"...even after all these years. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Weaver,
Do you want the conversion formula? I can write it down for you. Just realize that 0C is actually just 32 F. For someone near Canada, that is short sleeve weather. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> IF it gets to -20 C, time to put on a jacket and maybe some gloves. If it gets to 40 C you have moved to The LAND OF OZ and did not know it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
God Bless,
JL

WAT:
You know? I never thought about it! I guess I've been 2 wrapped around trying 2 figure out why Venus is considered 2 rotate retrograde, rather than having it's north pole pointed in the opposite direction 2 most of the planets. ...and likewise, why is Uranus considered 2 be tilted NINETY EIGHT degrees on its axis relative 2 its orbit, WITH a retrograde rotation, rather than EIGHTY TWO degrees with a direct rotation?
If you know the answers 2 these troubling 2uestions, by all means let me know! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

You know, 2long, I was just pondering that very question myself today - NOT!!!!!!

2long,
I was read in fifth grade it is based on an observation point above the N pole of the sun. Then take all angles positive in the mathematical sense.
Hell, way too long ago for me to remember correctly. I am good at remembering incorrectly, though. .
I do remember edge vectors though. Left thumb rule.

Now I have a headache again.

Do you want the conversion formula?
Thanks JL, but I have it. Life would be so much simpler if we were all on the same weather system.
You know, 2long, I was just pondering that very question myself today - NOT!!!!!!
No kidding, heh Jen. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
I do know from a horoscope site that Mars is in retrograde and they say that this will cause all sorts of problems in logistics and electronics. Well as I am in the Customs Brokerage business I can vouch that it has been a total nightmare. Just ask Yesmoke with the mega cigarette siezure at JFK, and then our company had a nationwide computer system crash. And so on and so forth.
Too wierd about the Mars retrograde thing, but now it apparently has balanced itself so work should go smoother (please). <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

weave - a "good enough" approximation for converting "metric" (celcius) degrees to farenheit > double the degrees C and add 32.
So 10 C would be about 20 + 32 = 52.
(The actual multiplier is 9/5 instead of 2.)
Hey, wonder if a metric six pack would be 12 + 32 = 44? Wow, count me in for metric!

And I'ld like to use that conversion on my checking account, just peeked after the Xmas damage, YIKES!
Thank you for the simple formula, I can remember that.

2long - In furlongs per fortnight?
OK, you nut <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> , I used to know a bit about "barns" as a measurement for cross sections, but I forgot that long ago. Don't wanna re-learn it. Too old.
