Hi kimmy,
just have a quick question about your name. Gaelic yes? Irish gaelic, scottish? how extensive is your knowledge of gaelic language/celtic stuff?
reason - looking for something gaelic/irish for a tattoo for me and my H. we want something to show our love & (re)commitment to each other. maybe a word and/or symbol.
did some preliminary searches online but looking for others' input - esp. those knowledgeable in gaelic stuff.
Thanks! Frags [ December 31, 2004, 10:43 AM: Message edited by: Fraggles ]

Hey frags! We're parched!
Anyway, I have an idea (for me--gonna be expensive though):
Coat of arms; in each, shamrock, claddagh, Celtic cross, and Irish flag/American flag. On my butt: "Pogue Ma Homme" (sp)
De does have some great ideas though...there was a thread few months back about tats.
Hope things are going well for you! Happy New Year!

LINY
Sorry about abandoning my bartender post. Like I said, I figured you idiots helped yourself!
I've done gaelic language research today and I know what that means! LOL Just don't ask me to pronounce anything I found!
I am adding to my four; H to his two. I have a celtic theme going and don't want to break it and H justs WISHES he were Irish! LOL
I'll have to search for that thread.
Wishing you and brown a wonderful, happy & safe New Year!!
Hugs, Frags

LINY,
I have: -celtic faery (left side lower back/almost butt - H likes to call it my flank - like I'm a cut of meat! no disrespect-just joshing with me) This was my first - his bday present five years ago. He NEVER thought I'd get one! -claddagh ring (second toe, left foot) -Celtic knotwork (around navel) -celtic cross (nape of neck)
DFW has:
-Tribal armband (right arm) -originally a greatful dead skull-rose in mouth with his last name but then covered up with a larger skull with confederate hat, flag (he is civil war buff) (left arm)
It's tough to resist once you get ink in your blood!

Frags - can't see your name without singing to myself:
"Down in Fraggle rock... Down in Fraggle rock..."
(snort)
Yes, I am scotch/irish. Erin go brough.
My dealan-de has a double meaning of "butterfly" and "God's fire". It's above my flutterbye/hibiscus tat on my backside.
Think on what you want to say with your tats. Is there a word or phrase that you two love? Try typing it into the Gaelic dictionary (you can find it online). Is there anything specific to Ireland that makes you emote? Is it possible to utilize it in a tattoo?
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, chica, I was on bacation.
Side note I think is hilarious: My kids are hispanic/scotch/irish...they won't know what to order when they sidle up to the bar...whiskey...no...tequila...no...whiskey...no...
I agree...Got ink? is not just a question, it's a way of life.

kimmy,
thanks for replying. hope you had a good bacation!
I researched tons of words/sayings and a few I really like. trying to figure out what type of image we'd like - I'd like something that shows love. I found a pretty cool heart done in knotwork. Does that sound corny?? Grrr it's so hard to decide when it's so permanent!
ready for this one...my kids are irish/german/ukranian/french/italian would that be... I'll have a whiskey; no, a beer; no, a pierogie; no, a beaujolis; no, a chianti!
DFW is the mutt! I am almost ALL irish.

Hey FaithInMe,
How about an update? I've been checking every day for some word from you.
How was the holidays? Did you find a new full-time job? Did you find a new place to live? How are the kids? Any word on Dork? Were you able to get your son on DEERS? Etc.

I looked - some say the butterfly, some say it's the boar...yuck. I don't think DFW wants a butterfly on him! I'll just keep looking & thinking! Thanks Frags

I'll keep my head open to ideas. Every once in a while I get a shamrock up my tuckus and have this need to search out my heritage and end up doing all kinds of web surfing.

Goodness, don't get me started on that one. I have met more dead ends researching than I don't know what. It's very frustrating. Can't get out of NYC. May even be on a wild goose chase there too--think something happened in my family (quite possibly an extramarital affair--oh, the irony) that I'm having so many "false" leads and dead ends. On top of that (something that would substantiate my theory), before my dad passed, he said his grandparents knew NOTHING of their ancestory.

YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO RESTING SNARFY! Brown's gonna kick your butt for not resting.
I'm a descendant from one of 3 brothers that made their way to the US from Ireland with the hopes of making their way to Cali. The one I'm related to ended up stopping in the Ozarks with another brother and drinking themselves silly for the rest of their days.
The other brother made it to Cali and lived happily ever after.
