Well, I gotta say, last night something happened that scared the living cr@p outta me... I haven't been to a doctor yet, but am working on that this morning...

Dylan is visiting her parents so I was alone, chilling out by the computer.

I've had low-grade acid indigestion for like two days but last night, 'bout 10pm is suddenly got way way way worse. Like a tight ball right below/behind my sternum, it started to grow until the pain got so intense that I got up to try and walk it off.

I started feeling a bit nauseous and dizzy and this feeling, coupled with the pain in my chest increased until I was worried enough to pick up the phone.

I was going to call 9-1-1 if it got anyworse. Well it got worse and so I went towards the front door to unlock it so that the techniciens could get in to treat my unconcious self without breaking my door, but I was too weak to turn the lock.

I kind half passed out, leaning against the wall there. The nausea took control and I vomited all down the wall. I was extremely disoriented. I had the phone right there in my hand, but couldn't use it.

I started to feel slightly better for about half a minute. I stumbled to the bathroom (about 3 feet away) and vomited again. Didn't make it to the toilet... filled the sink instead.

The 'passing out' feeling was kind of lingering. The edges of my vision hovered in a threatening darkness. I heard a loud hissing in my ears.

Well, as you all have guessed by now, it got better. The whole thing lasted maybe 15mins, I'd guess. I'm feeling fine right now.

I'm trying to find a doctor right now. According the internet, I'm going to need a EKG, to see if it was indeed a heart attack.

But I was just wondering, anybody here ever have anything like this happen to them? What did the doctors say?

Never had anything like that happen, but those are signs of a heart attack...get your @ss to the doctor/hospital right now!!!!

You should have gone ahead with 911...that's nothing to play around with.

dewt...

esophogeal spasm cause very very similiar pain to what you are describing....

YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GO GET CHECKED OUT...when it is happening....

They will usually rule out cardiac if it's not......and diagnos this...

very very similiar....

typical heart attacks often describe a feeling of someone sitting on your chest....
arm pain etc....

but there are plenty of atypical signs and symptoms....

they can do lab work to see if there was cardiac involvement...even after an "episode"...
you should see someone today....

both are very scary..
both are worth looking in to...to rule out the cardiac stuff...

esophogeal spasms are usually treated with maalox with a pain killer....

and then pri-losic or other every day antacid pill...

hope you are better..but hope you do follow up...

scary huh?

Hope you are okay. I have no medical training whatsoever - but did experience symptoms similar to what you are talking about and also wondered if I was having a heart attack.

I went to my doctor's office and was sent to the emergency room. For me - it turned out to be gallstones, and I needed to have my gall bladder removed. I was told I had fairly typical symptoms of gall stones.

Again - I have no medical training - but was told that often heart attacks are accompanied by tingling/sensation in left arm.

Good luck to you. Very scary experience.

'Scary' is a good word. I'd venture to say that I've never, ever, been so scared in my life. And I've had a pretty scary life...

I told Dylan about it this morning, though I didn't want to burden her with the stress of it. I told my boss when he called this morning and asked if I wouldn't mind cancelling my vacation. He told one of my co-workers and together they are insisting that I go to the hospital.

Of course I don't want to go.

And I can be pretty stubborn about listening to others advice for my own good. (As you all well know)

But if there's one thing that MB has taught me it's to recognize that kind of thinking. I've learned that sometimes it's in my best interests to just shut up and do it.

So I'm listening to y'all and to my friends, family and co-workers and going to the damn hospital.

grumbleHope you're happy.[/grumble]

Anyway, happy side effect...

My paradigm has shifted. I took a look at some of the stresses I'm facing and come to the realization that even if last night wasn't a heart attack, at the rate I'm going, it will be one...

Enough is enough.

I'm going to deal with my Life before it Deals with me.

Thanks folks,

Well, here we have a service called 'info-sante' which is a government run telephone service for medical advice. Yay for free health care.

Anyway, I called it and went through my experience with the nurse on the phone.

Due mainly to the fact that the pain went away right after I vomited, she said I could probably relax - that it was most likely gastro-intestinal. Which kinda makes sense considering how much cucumber and tomato I went through yesterday.

She said that if a hospital visit were in order, it should have been last night! (Which I kind of agree with)

She said be wary though. If I get to feeling anything out of the ordinary it would be a sign that it is NOT gastro-intestinal and I should high-tail it to the hospital.

Also, she said it'd be a very good idea to follow this up with a trip to my GP.

So yep, I'm ok. Kinda relieved, to say the least.

Thanks folks, for caring.

LOL...

I've got my phone book right here and I'm phoning around to find one. Lots are not taking new patients and also I don't want to wait until July 2015. Free healthcare... yay!

And yep I cleaned up the yuck. Did it last night after I was feeling better.

You don't want that stuff drying...

So....Canadian are we dewt?? LOL It was the free health care that gave it away.

I still think I would have gone to the hospital so they could test your cardiac enzymes just to be absolutely sure it wasn't that. I know that some GI stuff can mimic a cardiac event, but I didn't want you to convince yourself that's what it was, and not go to the hospital. (And a lot of ppl who are having heart attacks think it's only indigestion)

Go to the doctor buddy...lol

Geez dewt! I'm late on this, but I'm glad you are ok for now. Notice I said for now.

I hesitate to answer your question about other people experiencing episode(s) like this. I have many times, and I know the underlying cause of it (for me).

If you want to know more, ask me AFTER you've been checked out by a doctor .

Take care dewt

Okay Dewt. Here is a huge 2x4. Is this a "man thing" or what? If you puke, and almost pass out and don't go to the hospital what are you gaining except maybe being dead? Men .

And I am Canadian. It is a pain in the *** to go to some hospitals but for crying out loud. SMACK!
Put it another way, if this happened to your kids, your W or your mother or father. WHat would you do if they refused to go. GRRR.

Can you see the smoke coming off these keys?

And, as a person who has been rushed to emergency with bleeding ulcers, esophageal bleeding and gall stones, (not at the same time)ALL of which have similar symptoms, Two of the above can be fatal if not treated.

Okay enough lecturing. DON'T DO THAT AGAIN, Dewt. We care about you.

Men! (as I stomp off in disgust)

Go to the doctor right away. Your symptoms are too scary. When caught early, a myocardial infarction can be treated with angioplasty, before there is any damage to the heart.

My kids dad had an MI at 35. Do not take any chances with this - once the damage is done, it is done. It's nothing to fool around with.

Ok... I just now got back from the doctors.

There's no rush to admit me to a hospital. Doctor said it's not likely that I had a heart attack, but clearly something is not right. So she's sending me for blood tests.

I told her something of my 'sitch and she's putting me on ADs.

In addition, I'm suppossed to take 2-3 weeks off work and not get too upset or worked up.

I have a follow up appointment in a month.

Oh yeah, I'm suppossed to start seriously thinking about quitting smoking. Apparently my lungs are a little rough.

And of course, if anything scary happens, I'm suppossed to actually go to the hospital.

Anyway, thanks for waiting so patiently for my reply. Hope I didn't worry you all.

Seriously, thanks for the prayers. I appreciate that more than you might think.

Oh yeah, one more thing... I was reading your sig line and thinking (and I hate to be negative) but when you put that sig in, did you take into account the existance of birds?
