Wow. That is just a little creepy.

Is that new or has it always been that way?
How did you find it?

I'm gonna go check it out...

I think it's new. I found it by putting "Just J" into Google and discovering a few of the Forum posts. So I narrowed it to just the MB site and tried a couple of other handles as well.

I think this is new. The last time I ran a "Just J" search, MB didn't show up.

Holy Cow.

I just typed in my screen name and most of it was dating/personals but there were a few at MB with my posts on them.

Some I barely remember writing.

Hmmmm.

I ran faithinme and found a lot of faithinme's as usernames on sites I've never been to. It's probably fairly common.

I scrolled through the pages and found MB with my username on page 4.

I ran my real name though and HOLY COW! I came up with tons from that search!

I was a bit worried, but mine came up with a whole lot of recipes for kiwifruit jam. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

It's really only a real worry I guess if someone knows your handle.

We did the real name search a few days ago...it was funny.

There are some high achievers out there with my name! And H's too.! Don't like finding real info about myself there...like address, phone # etc.

That is the down-side to the internet. Nothing is private anymore. I guess it never was but it was a lot harder to find "back then".

I like the up-side to the internet...we live in a very small town so if I want to find out about something my resources are limited...but I can go on-line and learn a lot. We use the internet a lot...We have multiple computers that are all hooked up (last summer we had 5 due to everybody that was living here and the one getting a computer and getting ready to go to college etc.-right now we have 2 but will probably get another before too long.)

It seems odd to have a link to a post on MB...

I did find my MB profile for all the world to see.
Luckily, I've posted nothing worth beans in all the years I've been here.....mostly making comments to others about their probs!

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes Google to catch up with the change.

Just J, I changed my handle on January 8th or so...I searched my old handle and that's what was visible. I didn't check this handle yet. Darn, I did change my old handle for a *reason*.

I doubt this google thing is new...their 'spiders' probably jsut finally got around to indexing this site. I'm not actually sure if there is anything to be done about it.

Can't find any matches on MB for deacon blue...so it must work to change the screen name.

Brilliant!

But, we are never very far ahead of the genuises that are involved in the internet stuff..

yikes! The posts that pop up first are ones ADDRESSED to me (like "starfish what the heck were you thinking? or "starfish, who died and made you queen?" (titles changed to protect the innocent LOL)....so the most controversial...ugh. I don't think I like this at all.

So we all have to change our names to protect our privacy? We will lose all our personal history with each other too, then. Can't this be stopped somehow?

I found my profile on page 4 of google too.
I agree that unless someone knows your handle we probably don't have much to worry about.

No, don't change all your usernames. The next time Google updates its search results, it will find all the new usernames. You'd have to change your name every few days and it's unlikely that anyone wants ot do that.

Let's wait and see what the mods think of in terms of solutions. It would be relatively easy, I would guess, to take all the boards "private," where you have to have a username to read them. That might not be the best solution either, as there are many lurkers who read here and benefit from what's written.

It may also be possible to ask Google not to index the bulletin board; I don't know what their policy is on that.
