Things Will Get Better

When things aren't going well for you
And times aren't what they should be,
Just focus on the positive
And think about what could be.

Acknowledge what has happened--
Don't lose sight of lessons past--
But don't allow the negative
Distracting thoughts to last.

Take what you've learned and start from there;
Draw strength from your frustration;
And let this added sense of purpose
Be your new foundation.

It's hard to follow any plan
Precisely to the letter,
Though life right now is difficult,
Things will in time get better.

THE GOAL

The goal is there for all to see-
The measure of the game.
We're on the field somewhere between
The failure and the fame

We try our best to move the ball
Through patterns, plays and passes.
The goal seems near of far away
Through our subjective glasses

The game may be an endless quest,
More losses than advances.
The goal may always loom right there
Eluding all our chances.

We may not ever cross the line;
We may not win the praise,
We may not see our struggles end,
Nor see triumphant days.

But better to have sought the challenge,
Better to have tried,
Better to have found the courage
Dwelling deep inside.

the people from the sidelines
May judge harshly each mistake,
But should you snare the victory
They'll share the winner's cake.

So better risk a contest lost
Than brood of skills forsaken.
The victories will only come
When the challenges are taken.

The energy it takes to quell
Ambitions from within
Is often more than it would take
To grab the ball and win.

So if we summon from our hearts
Those strengths we seldom use,
We'll be a victor in the toughest
Contest, win or lose!
