I am in the middle of pretty good book that might be interesting to other people. It's fiction, sorta chick lit. I get weary of all self-help and relationship stuff. Just need to escape occasionally.
It called The Goddesses of Kitchen Avenue by Barbara Samuel. It's not too deep or on famous events or people but about a subject near to our broken hearts: Infidelity. The main character, Trudy is a woman of 46, married for 20+ years with children and on the cusp of being a empty nester. The book starts a few months after her D-day when she kicked her WH out of their house. She supports and is supported by her neighbors. It's got a good setting, realistic plot and well drawn characters.
What I really like about this book is the way it is written. The author has a way with words that lets you into this poor BW's head. It's like she had the words for my pain. The things that Trudy feels are the very same things I'm feeling. There are paragraphs that speak to me. Words that will bring tears to your eyes as you realize that what she's saying is exactly what's going on inside you. This writer is either incredibily empathic or has been cheated on.
I'm about 2/3 of the way through the book. I suspect it may have a somewhat happy ending. Not sure how I feel about that but I like it anyway. Go for the Goddesses!
