I was watching Animal Planet this morning (gettin' a few ideas from Good Dog U) and happened to hear about a Texas rancher who used Australian Kelpies to herd his cattle. So natcherly I thought of this thread. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

So I sez to myself, I MUST warn Mel...it seems that these Kelpies have a little dingo in 'em - makes 'em tough and mean 'nuff to stare down and nip even the most stubborn of the herd! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" />

BDUCK TEXAS STYLE


A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural Texas. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing.


The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and


now I'm going to retrieve it."


The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."


The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the United States and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own.


The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in Texas. We settle small disagreements like this with the "Three Kick Rule."


The lawyer asked, "What is the Three Kick Rule?"


The Farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth until someone gives up."


The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom. The old


farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney.


His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees. His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushing from his mouth. The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie. The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet.


Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, Now it's my turn."

The old farmer smiled and said, "Naw, I give up. You can have the duck."

Mackinac Island is a blast. Your girls will love it, everybody does.

You can rent bicycles for two as well as horseback ride, and ride in horse buggies.

If money is a factor, go in the fall when the kids are back in school, September and early October are beautiful on the island and the prices drop as well as the amount of tourists.

You can stay at other really nice places overnight and visit the Grand Hotel in the daytime for lunch or breakfast if you can't afford to stay at the "Grand" itself.

You can also go over to the mainland, Mackinac City and it is fun there as well. With sidewalk musicians and plays. Also a fifties club type place where everyone dresses up like in the fifies with poodle sweaters and skirts.

Lots of fun for girls.

If you ever do come, please let me know and I'll come over and join your for lunch or something with my little girl (I'm an hour away). That would be really nice!

When I was in college I wanted to work on the island but never did.

I have property on an island further north than that one and it is very, very rustic.

The Grand is haunted, that place gives me the creeps! I usually stay over in Mackinaw City or St Ignace [gambling! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> ] when I go up. In fact, I am trying to pinpoint DH down on a date for our next TC visit.
