Ok....My WH has joined a semi-pro baseball league. Well, I prefer to call it "over 40 league for old timers" but anyway.... He has a game tonight...my son has practice tonight also and my WH is one of his coaches. Well, my WH wanted my son to go to his game and miss his practice. I told him no. I feel that my son's practice is more importnant than my Wh trying to relive his glory days. I just feel like he should put my son first. There will be other games my son can go to....I just didn't feel that it was appropriate for my son to miss his own practice for my WH's game. Grow up!!!!! Am I wrong in my thinking???? My WH had my son all weekend and will get him again Wed. night. He wanted him tonight too?? NOT!!! I feel like he's trying to take away my time with my son. Any opinions or advice on this???

Or maybe testing himself on how well (or not well) will he do without your son available when he wish to have him. I do not know. It is never easy when kids are involved and WH decide to be more pain. Sorry I can not suggest anything but I do agree with you that your WH should put your son first.

Your H has been so selfish. He of all people knows what happens when you miss practice. Of course if he's one of the coaches he can make an exception, but then that creates problems for the team. You are making the right call, but he will try to make you feel guilty for it. Don't fall for it.
Good luck!

As a non-parent, and a non-sports person, I don't know how important it is that your son make all his practices.
What does your son want to do?
These kinds of conflicts will continue to arise for years to come. You'd better get ready to "lose" a few.
Try not to let your dismissive opinion of WH's activity influence your decision.

Your gut reaction was right on. There will be other times DS can go see daddy play.
What kind of message does that send to DS if dad says he can ditch practice? DS has made a commitment to HIS team, just as WAH (whopping arsehole) has made one to his own team. What part of TEAM does WAH have issues with?
- Kimmy (who's mom would've freaked monkeys if I'd ditched swim practice for something so trivial)

sir...or whatever you call him....
Our son has committed to playing with this team. That commitment as do all commitments bears the responsibility that he do the work it requires.
Attending practices is an important part of being a team player. I am sure there will be future games for son to attend when not otherwise engaged in other engagements.

Thank you everybody! I'm glad that you all agree that I did the right thing. I explained to my son that he made a commitment to his team and they count on all the kids to be there to practice. He is one of the pitchers and opening day is in a week. I just don't understand why my WH thinks it's ok for our son to miss practice for HIS game. I swear...this man needs to GROW up.
On another note....Here is a letter my WH sent home with our son...WTF?????? Why is he making my son repeat this crap about responsibilites??? My WH is the one that needs to repeat that in the mirror to himself. UUGGGHHHH>>>>this just aggrivates me to death!!!!
"here is the little prayer you and I say along with "now I lay me down to sleep" each night before falling asleep. "Daddy loves me and Mommy loves me forever and always. I beleive in God and I am filled with courage and strength, love, kindness and happiness. I will always be responsable for my own actions and respectful and honest to others." Each time we learn and talk about other virtues and values we will continue to add to our prayer :-)"

It is one thing to talk about God..quite another to talk to him.
God is not mocked.
So, in that regard..I'd say your bases are pretty well covered. [wink, wink, nudge]

Another thing TR, who is suppose to be watching your son while WH is playing in the game? Is DS going to be sitting in the dugout with the team, alone in the stands or is OW going to be there?
An 8 year old boy cannot, should not be left unattended in the stands for a game. It's too much to ask of a kid to sit there by himself for a couple hours. If DS is anything like my sons were at that age, he could wander away and get into big trouble fast. Any decent coach wouldn't let a little kid in the dugout. As for the OW option, let's not even go there.
Even if WH's games are on a night when DS doesn't have a practice, insist upon proper supervision. And no contact with OW

Grapegirl.....I so agree with you! At this point my son has had no contact with OW. She's French...I doubt she cares about baseball anyway. I was always in the stands cheering my WH on. Anyway.....I would assume my son would be sitting in the dugout with my WH. I know my son and he wouldn't sit in the stands by himself. NO WAY! I don't know what my WH is thinking....he's such an idiot!
