After the first iteration of this A, when my W and I tried to reconcile, I was very blessed by a forgiving attitude from her whole family. Now that it's recurred, I have a lot of fears about their response to me should my W and I decide we want to work on the M again. They live just a mile away, my MIL watches our kids after school, and we are/were all pretty close.

I know I'm getting way ahead of myself right now, since my wife as of now hasn't yet said she'd like to work on it anymore, but it's just something I think about.

What's your experience been like with the in-laws and mutual friends in these situations, particularly when there's been relapses?

Lost, if your wife does take you back, you will probably have to prove yourself to her family just as you would your W.

Affairs are devastating to the family as well, and they won't be thrilled to see her take you back if she does. My sister hated my H for years for betraying me and can only now stomach him. And that is after of 4 years of hard work and apologies on his part. It just depends on the family member. It's never an easy thing, though.
