I thought you all would appreciate this story. When all this first started, one of the far-out thoughts that occurred to me was "maybe he has a brain tumor". When my H asked "Do you really wish I had a brain tumor?" I replied "Well, if it was operable!" I was grasping at any possible explanation for his complete change in personality.
Get this -- I just heard a story from a woman whose husband left her after 12 years of marriage for another woman. He married the other woman and had a child. He had a complete personality change. Turns out he had an inoperable brain tumor and died within a year. She felt guilty for all the terrible things she wished upon him before they discovered the tumor.
Unfortunately, plenty of spouses do this kind of thing without having a brain tumor. But it sure made me think!!!

Funny you should mention brain tumor. Both of my daighters in law were very concerned about my health last fall. I had had a severe weight loss (20 lbs. in 3 weeks) was taking nerve meds. as fast as i could get them down, and was generally in one depressed state.
We all ended up at a funeral home last October, which coincidentally was the day of our 34th. anniversary. (Kind of like an omen?) So, the "pushier" DIL, takes my H outside to talk to him.
She bluntly asked him if he had had an affair, which not only did he deny, but he also told her that it was none of her business. She disagreed, as she told him that they were very worried about me, and if he didn't care about my health, they did. Taking our DIL into his confidence, he told her that I had been "acting strange" for the past few months, and he suspected that I had brain tumors. Not one tumor, mind you, but many! Talk about denial.
A few days later, she told me about the incident, and encouraged me to kick his "sorry [censored]" out of the house.
He never has told me about this (wonder why?) and he has not a clue that I know. My son was the one who got the riot act read to him on the way home. She told him that if he ever cheated, don't EVER turn it around to make it look like it was her! BTW: It was both my DIL's that told me what they suspected, long before I even had a clue that he was having an affair. It's amazing how far they will go, when they are pushed against a wall.
------------------

SUCCESS STORY
