Wishing you a green flash sunset 2long!
Which by the way are about as rare as you! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
Just read this awhile ago -
Q. "If there is a green in Paradise, it cannot be but of this shade, which most surely is the true green of Hope," wrote novelist Jules Verne of "the green flash." Where on Earth might you spot this fleeting skycolor?
A: The setting Sun looks reddish-orange because the light must travel through more air to the eye, and this scatters the shorter-wavelength blues to deepen the azure look of the sky, explains San Diego State astronomer Andrew T. Young on his "An Introduction to Green Flashes" Web pages. Meanwhile, the Sun-sent reds and oranges bend around the Earth (refraction), painting the orb and making it seem to sink a bit later than it actually does.
Of all the colors visible in the setting Sun, green bends most over the horizon, and so is the last to set. It can be viewed only with luck and persistence on very clear days on an ocean, lake or prairie, or from a mountain, and then usually only for a second or two. Most people have never seen the green flash. Have you?
WORD OF CAUTION: Never look long at the Sun until it has slipped partly below the horizon, having begun to set.

Yes, by all means, have a nice birthday. I hope you got the day off with pay.
I (for one, and probably lots of others) would like to know how it goes for you.
Not that I worry.....
OK, OK, I do, and I admit it. So, I would like to know how it goes.
Haven't heard from you lately, don't know what that means.
Hmmm,
Maybe it means your typing finger is broken?
Squashed by one of those little drywalls?
I heard they can get mean when they think they are about to be hanged.
I'd sing, but I think more of you than to subject you to that.
Happy, Happy.

Ac2ally, it's Giovanni Schiaparelli's birthday, 2! He's one of my heros.
He's also a bit older than ol' 2long: 170 years 2day!
I get 2 sand the bathroom floor this afternoon!

P.S. But I've heard tell that there's disagreement as 2 whether GS was born on the 4th versus the 14th! <img border="0" alt="[Teary]" title="" src="graemlins/teary.gif" /> <small>[ March 04, 2005, 02:47 PM: Message edited by: 2long ]</small>

I just had another thought (yeah, they come to me unbidden all the time - it's a curse).
Your birthday, like my blood type, is a command: March Forth!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
I have a pollyanna blood type: Be Positive <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

weaver:
We ac2ally got the best green flash display from our backyard a few years ago during a BBQ we were having!
It was very surreal. We were talking about it with some of our guests, who were sitting on chairs facing us during the discussion. Me and about 4 others were standing, facing west as the sun was going down. We live on a hilltop in NE LA, and have an excellent west horizon.
The people sitting didn't believe we'd see a flash, and frankly neither did we, so when we did, we were speechless because it lasted so "long" (like 2 or 3 seconds). And we just stared at each other in bewilderment afterward, as if we weren't sure we'd seen what we saw (but realized we had, from the looks on each others' faces). This, of course, brought the east-facers 2 their feet, hoping 2 catch a glimpse themselves, but it was already over!
I've seen pic2res of Venus producing a green flash, but I've never seen it live.

Hi 2long,
Do you feel any older?
Tell me about this sand the bathroom thing. Do you just bring it in in buckets, and dump it out? Or do they have a better way now days. I bet it would keep from having to wipe the floor nearly as often.
Why didn't I think of that?

Yeah, I feel older! ...and 21 was a LONG time ago! I don't even remember 21! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
Buckets would do it. 2 bad there's not enough room for the volleyball net!
