I am considering installing a key-stroke logger program on the home PC . I have been researching some on the internet and have found a couple that would do what I need it to do. Some of them can be downloaded from the internet or purchased at the store. My ? is: Is it safe to download this stuff or does that open your computer up to virus' or spyware or something horrible with big, long teeth????? Any "expert" advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m no expert but I do own a computer.
Downloading software from the internet can be perfectly safe.
The most important thing to remember is never, and I mean never, download software of any kind from untrustworthy sites. If you download one compromised program onto your system the game is over. That software has virtually unlimited access to your machine and can download all kinds of other undesirable programs.
Only download from sites you trust.

Rebecca Before you do any purchase or downloading make sure you research the item you are planning on. Using the search engine www.Google.com is a good place to start. See if you can find reviews of the item by sites such as CNet, PCWorld, E-Opinions ETC. Then go to the Manufacturers website and read details about what it does, what it offers, and set-up for use instructions. Here is a thread I created about KeyLoggers. http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=37;t=036937#000000SM

Use Spector Soft spy program. It is awesome, and in my case, in a bad way.

Hi Rebecca -
Sorry I couldn't get back to you on your question - I had a major malfuncton here at home and ended up with a new modem....Spector Soft is probably the best key-logger to get....but be warned, what you find may not be very pleasant to know - it sure wasn't for me....

I agree with the others, it won't be pretty. The stuff I intercepted floored me, even to this day I remember them word for word. As for the software make sure that it runs as a service and you can rename that service, otherwise anybody with general knowledge of the OS will probably be able to find it.

Can you be a little more specific. What do you mean run as a service and how do you actually rename it. I can't do this on my WH computer at work but I would like to have it at home, even for watching the DD's who want to start IMing.

Thanks for the in-put guys. I need to finally find out for myself if my H is still contacting the OW with whom he had an EA. I know that what I find may not be pleasant, like I've said before, I sometimes feel like I'm fighting with one arm tied behind my back.

I used Eblaster - the cousin to Specter to find out that my WW was having an affair. I had to use Eblaster because she was moving out, and I would have no access to the computer from then on. Worked liked a champ - almost too good, as others have said.
BTW - there are some legal issues involved, so you may want to read up on them on the web, just to make sure you are safe...

Basically installing it as a 'service' means it runs in the background and you access the generated files by going to the folder and reading them.
The way I did it was a little more secure because even if I opened the document, there was no record of it in the Start=>Documents folder - I just started the computer in safe mode to access the Admin logon and used it until it made me so sick that I just deleted the whole thing. Way too much pain for me. I didn't need it - already knew what was going on anyway....

I use Big Brother, it is amazing. It keeps logs of sites visited, keystrokes, takes desktop snapshots according to words you put in, keeps logs on all AOL, Yahoo, Excite email accounts also everything typed. And ALL chat programs
Be warned though, the stuff you will find will be gut wrenching, but better to know than not I think...
Even got my kids banned from the puter!
