Okay, an update.

This is been really hectic.

I called my attorneys office only to find out that he and his assistant are both out of the office today. I left a message for him to call me back, urgently!!

The listing agent said she wouldn't accept my contract with these reservations unless I had clearance from my attorney as the seller would risk losing the other buyer.

I called my mortage loan officer and asked her if I would qualify for a $100K loan while still owning the other house and she said no problem.

The agent was to meet with the seller at 12:30 to present the other offer.

At 12:02, my attorney called back and said no problem with me buying a house if I wanted to do so. I called my agent, she faxed me the contract (which she had already filled out) and I signed it and faxed it back at 12:18.

We have put in the contract that the offer is valid until 3:00 PM today. So...we will know within 2 1/2 hours if I have bought the house.

Here is my offer:

Asking price $101,000

My offer: $102,500 with the seller paying $3,000 toward closing.

Closing costs are estimated at $3,900.

So.....I will let post as soon as I know.

Congratulations on taking this big step! I'm having good vibrations about this!

H and son are eating lunch together as I post. They seem to be doing great together! H seems real happy and upbeat!

This is truly a miracle! Thanks for your prayers and support in this. You were really a part of this when I was wanting to give up hope. Baby steps.....

Mimi...this is a real nail biter.

My agent just called back and said the listing agent looked at my contract and asked if that is the best we can do. My agent says that is her discreet way of saying that ain't gonna get it.

So, were're staying at 102,500 and asking only $1,500 toward closing. That means we're paying full price of $101,000.

Man....this is nerve racking.

I've told my agent to do what she needs to do (within reason) to get me that house. Of course, this isn't a bidding war as the selling agent can't tell us what the other contract is, and vice versa. But....there can be "hints" dropped, and that's what's going on right now.

And...to you Mimi...congrats on the day with H and YS. I know that is probably as big, or bigger, to you than buying this house is to me.

Keep me posted, and I'll keep you posted.

Georgia

Congradulations! I looked at the photos of the home and it really looks like a great value for the money. It looks like they did such a nice job with the renovations.

Whew....what a busy afternoon. I was on a conference call (with my boss present)when my realtor called. It's been hectic.

I am told the only reason they choose my contract was the nearness of the closing date. I am willing to close on May 24. That means in less than 1 month, I'll be in my own home!!!! I am indeed excited.

I put in the contract that all window treatments and the shower curtain, the pot hanger in the kitchen, the bar stools and the built-in microwave all stay.

I have told my agent to tell them that I am interested in buying their washer/dryer and refridgerator if they are interested in selling. We will see how that goes.

This is unbelievable!!!!

The house was actually built in 1935 and still has the original tin roof. According to the seller's disclosure, the owners have been in the house 10 years and the roof has never had a leak. The CAH is 10 years old, the water heater 5.

Is anybody as excited as I am? I can't wait to tell Jeb!!! His own fenced back yard and within walking distance of a huge park.

I've got a feeling WW is NOT going to like this!!!

Very cool!

Try not 2 worry about having 2 mortgages. We bought a 2nd house for my SIL and MIL 2 live in just 8 months after d-day, while the EA was still going on (remotely). But it'll be a good investment if we ever have 2 sell it.

...and then there's Mimi's experience 2 refer 2.

Yep, your W will likely be upset, but it might just be the catalist she needs 2 wake up.

...and you'll still have the investment, one way or the other.

Very cool.

As you say, WW will not be pleased. It will scare her to death. You are moving on! If a miracle happens, and she begs and you take her back, you can always become a slumlord.

Good Morning all –

Well....it just keeps getting better and better.

Thanks DanigirlinVA, Trix, 2Long, AD, cc, and Melody for the encouraging and kind remarks about the house. I am, as I’m sure you can all tell, very excited. I am beginning to formulate plans in my mind for the back yard.

Yesterday afternoon after lunch (grilled chicken breast, REAL mashed potatoes, biscuits & gravy, pecan pie) at my place with the rest of the family, I took Jeb for a walk.

Of course, I had to walk by my house. The owner was outside finishing the painting on the front porch and I stopped and met him. His wife came out and introduced herself as well. They are Christians, but it is obvious that she is more of the spiritual leader of the family. She and I talked for about an hour while he finished the painting. She works with indigent care patients at a local hospital. (BTW - This area is experiencing massive “rebirth” due to its location. There are 4 major hospitals within a 2 mile radius, with one only about 4 blocks away.)

It was such a blessing. They have raised their 2 kids in that house (now 20 and 25), they have been there 13 years. They have bought a bigger house (kinda backwards, huh?) and are looking forward to moving, but are having a really hard time (emotionally) leaving this house. I told her they had an open invitation to come back anytime, and I will invite them over for dinner after I get settled.

She told me about how they actually chose which contract to accept. She said that both contracts were essentially identical, and they prayed for guidance with both contracts in front of them as to which they should accept. She said they felt strongly that my contract was the right one, and that is the reason they chose it. She said they had specifically prayed for a Christian to buy their house.

She told me all about the neighbors. To the left is a young couple who are med students. The wife is finishing her residency and is going to be a pediatrician at a local hospital. They plan to stay in the house.

On the other side is a 92 year old widow. She took me over and introduced me to her. She is so sweet, told me that Jeb and I are welcome to come over and visit anytime and Jeb can come in too. She started telling me about her late husband. She said she was married 71 years and misses him so much, then she started crying. We talked for a while, then she hugged me when I left. She wants to show me her photo albums of her and her husband when I get moved in.

I must say that it hit me Friday that I will be leaving Reggie, even though I can still walk down there. This weekend I bought him a basketball and a net, but Wal-Mart didn’t have just the hoop without buying the backboard. I’ve got to make a trip to Sports Authority. I hope to put it up for him Thursday afternoon, assuming of course that his Mom is okay with this.

MIMI - I am so glad to hear that Friday was a success!! Yes, I think you can be a happy family (with a few bumps along the way, of course). I know you are thrilled. I am happy for you.

Even though I’m over it now, I had one of those “down” times Friday night. I sometimes stop and wonder why I’ve not been enough for WW. Why does she feel so compelled to have another man, and why can’t I meet her needs? I guess I had one of those times when I had my own pity party to introspectively asked what is so lacking about ME.

Georgia:

I posted to you earlier and it got lost in LA-LA LAND!

So I'll make this short and sweet...

I can give a personal testimony to the fact that we surely do not know what the future holds. A large part is not in our hands. I know the value of FAITH and that all things happen for a reasons we can't understand.

YOUR HOUSE SOUNDS WONDERFUL. However, it must feel bittersweet. As wonderful as it, it is normal for you to regret having to move there alone at this time in your life. Your down periods are to be expected. Please don't sweep your understandable sadness under the rug.....

My YS thinks that he talked more with his F on Friday than he has in his "whole life". Both of them are really trying to heal their relationship! Because of what I have been through, I am fearful that good times won't last, waiting for the next bomb to drop. I've come to accept that's how dreadful this all is. We are emotionally wounded. At least, I am. It will continue to take time to heal....

TODAY I AM HAPPY AND TODAY I AM TRULY HAPPY FOR YOU!

Good Morning, Mimi...

It is so exciting to hear about your YS and his F. I am so very happy for you, I know you're thrilled. Unfortunately, there will still be ups and downs, but it seems like they have experienced a major breakthrough. There may be more set backs, but they will NEVER lose what they gained on Friday.

Yes, it is bittersweet. But I have learned a lot about myself during this ordeal (as you told me I would).

I'm not going to make this long, but I now know that I don't belong in the "ritzy" suburbs. Some measure of financial success had me living where I didn't belong.....I'm happier (and more fulfilled) with "simplier" folks. I'm happier here, and this is where (right now) I intend to stay.

I have been so impressed with the kindness and genuiness of my neighbors. I saw the cop and his wife yesterday and told them about the house. You would have thought they were buying the house they were so excited. He offered to take a day off and help me move with his truck. He said he leaves the keys in his truck and anytime I need it, just come get it without asking. How's that for a neighbor?

I don't know why this is now my life, and perhaps I never will know. But...I accept that God has a plan and, at the right time, He will make it known to me.

Congratulations FGG!! What a blessing!

Now what are your plans with the other house?

And I think I've lost track somewhere, has the D paperwork been served yet? Has WW talked with your pastor (like he offered?)

And the BIG question, how will WW fit into your life if/when she comes around? Or is it too late for that?

This all sounds like GREAT news.

I hope WW gets help to "reboot" her operating system.

Hi SHMI -

Regarding the other house. I had my attorney put in the divorce petition (which was filed and presented to WW's attorney on March 28) that it is to be sold.

My pastor said he would contact me when he talked to her. He hasn't called, so I don't know if he's talked to her or not. I do know, by the way, that our friend "J" has been talking with her a lot, but I don't know what, if anything, is being accomplished.

The question about her coming around is a hard one. It's something I try not to think about. I don't know if it is something I can truthfully decide right now. I think in my current state, I can't focus on the "what if's". Every "almost" that I encountered turned out to be false hope and a new let down.

Right now, I'm assuming it is over with. If there is something that indicates otherwise, I will deal with that when it actually materializes.

FGG,

Good neighbors are a tremendous blessing.

Almost the only reason we have been reluctant to move from our oversized house in the fancy burbs is that the neighbor lady across the street is fast becoming W's best friend.

The offer from your brief neighbor (cop) to help you move is realy nice. Right now, I'm wondering who I could ask to help me. Nephew is gone, and we don't talk. He has no gratitude for what I've done for him. My bro works 70-80 hours a week (retail) and I hate to ask him for any of his time when he should be with his family. (Although I could invite his son and wife along and buy pizza, but it's not likely to be a festive occasion if it is a Plan B move.) My best friend moved to another state - and most of my old friends would just hire a mover - having passed the age and financial state in which they would move themselves. ... and there you have a neighbor who you have known for a couple of months who steps up and says "I'll help - anytime". That's wonderful!

I'm sure you yourself are a good neigbor. Reggie and the cop will miss you.

I suspect that your young med-student neighbors would really appreciate a dinner invite sometime. They are probably burning the candles at both ends and the middle.

Life in the sunshine ahead beckons (sp?) to you - to come out of the shadow.
