Good Morning to all -

I hope you all had a good weekend.

It was strange Friday having #1S examine my eyes, but I'm glad I went. Seems I have "occular hypertension", which apparently can be serious if not detected and treated early. I have to go back in 4 weeks for a field of view test, which is apparently to determine if any damage has been done to the optic nerve leading to loss of peripheral vision. I did get a new prescription, which I am anxious to get filled so I can see a little better.

The rest of Friday was spent doing domestic chores, which I really have gotten to kind of enjoy. Laundry, vacuuming, cleaning, ironing, etc. It's nice to have a totally clean house and all clean clothes.

The event of the weekend was my collision with a deer Saturday. A deer ran into the left side of my car and really crunched it up. He (she) kept going so I don't know how badly he was hurt, but he sure did some dameage to my car. I'm going to see if I can take it to the body shop today to get them started on it.

It was really a pretty boring weekend. I didn't see either S all weekend (except for the eye exam Friday). We started a Bible study at church Sunday night, kind of a OT/NT survey class.

I had heard from a friend about 2 weeks ago who said he would be in town today, but I've not heard anymore since then. He had said he would stay over at my house tonight, so I hope he still shows up. That was one reason I wanted to have the house clean.

Saturday evening I happened upon a very cool yard sale. It had apparently been going on all day, and the folks were ready to pack up and quit. It was at an old house (1900), and they were selling off a lot of their old junk / antiques (depending on your perspective). I bought a very large vase (about 3 feet tall) with dragons on the side of it. They said it was hand made in Saudi Arabia in the 1970's. Part of the neck is broken off, but that's okay because it is going to become the center piece of my pond with it tipped over and water pouring from it. I got it for $15.

Also, I got a couple of very, very old gas-fed sconces. They are very ornate (and rusty!). I think I will clean then and wire them for small sockets with flicker-type bulbs and put them on the deck / pergola when I finish it. Also $15.

And a few other odds and ends, but those were my major finds.

GOOD MORNING MIMI.....

Georgia

Yes it does....

$1,900 of damage to my car. They have to order parts, so it'll be next Monday before they can start on it. Fortunately my deductible is only $250.00.

FGG,

I was driving down a 2 lane rural road many years ago approx dusk....and suddenly out popped a deer in the middle of the road.

I swerved and missed that one; however deer are such loyal herd animals that the 2nd deer was determined to follow the 1st one...it came so close behind the 1st one there was no way I could avoid it. And actually the deer hit me - in the front left fender. Took out my front left headlight and did some damage to the driver door as well.

It was so upsetting. I felt terrible! The deer in my case kept running, but I found out later that some people saw it injured so called the state fish and wildlife department who came and took it away.

Caused about $1000 damage to my car - my insurance adjuster was odd about it. Apparently since that kind of damage fell under my comprehensive insurance not the collision the deductable was much less. So I had to prove it was a deer, because apparently that's one way people fraud their insurance companies so they only have to pay the lower deductable. So he very carefully pulled deer fur out of the fender etc before he would allow me the lower deductable.

Amazing...my mind doesn't think that way - it would never occur to me to lie to my insurance company.

I have never forgotten that experience and am extra cautious when driving through areas that say "deer crossing".

I killed a deer once too with my car. Felt bad about it, not sure why, as it ran out in front of me. Missed the first two, nailed the last one - most of the damage was on the drivers side where it ran right into me. '

Maybe I felt bad because it didn't know better, and I caused it harm.

Can't remember the damages - it was a long time ago.

CSue - it was between Aztec and Durango. Close to when I attended Frank Rand.

Georgia, I went fishing on my own, and had a very good time, wish the rest of you could have come.

Sorry things have continued to D, I was hoping she would get it.

Hi CSue -

Well, this was actually a case of the deer hit me as well. And, I have to assume it was a deer as I didn't even see it. All I know is there was a loud WHAM and my car shook. It, too, was about dusk. It hit my left side (I have very poor vision in my left eye). I looked in the mirror and didn't see a thing, turned around and couldn't find anything. And...there is no blood / fur on my car (that I can find, anyway). However, this was on a 4 lane divided highway with a very wide grass median and there were no other cars around. So....I assume it to be a deer.

Your experience may be why my insurance company (Travelers) wants to inspect my car even though I have an estimate from one of their "preferred" shops.

SS,

Yes, I know the area...along hwy #550, is what it's called now. In fact the state of Colorado put up a special fencing they're testing to see if they can prevent deer from crossing the road at that stretch of highway.

We went fishing this weekend too, for my husband's birthday. Didn't catch anything which is why H says it's called "fishing not catching"!

My boys were thoroughly disgusted. They would rather go catching!!

FGG,

I didn't think there was any fur either - not easily seen, however the inspector took a very close look and found some.

I'll be we're right...that's exactly why Travelers wants to have a look.

My point to my insurance company was that all the damage was to the side of my car. Nothing at all from the front - I didnt hit anything.

It will be interesting to hear what your adjuster thinks!

Man, I'm beginning to think that we need to form a deer killers club.

When I was young (teens), I would deer hunt a lot, both with a gun and a bow. I got one shot at a doe with a bow once, and up until Saturday that was the nearest I had come in my life to killing a deer. Now, I've likely killed one by vehicular homicide.

I can only conclude that since he didn't stop, he was uninsured.

SS,

North of Durango is where the deer hittings are really bad.

I make everyone in the car watch out their windows.

Around Telluride is the worst!! We've tried deer whistles, but I don't know if they really work.

Mine didn't have any paperwork on him, maybe it's a conspiracy?

Georgia, We can keep on subject if you want, I realize we are way off topic. Ah, and Sorry.

Durango is where I lived at the time. Hitting elk was bad too, and did much worse damage.

Where did your family go fishing?

I can't believe Mimi hasn't said more about the deer thing.

I don't find....just have fun. The "other" topic gets too depressing sometimes.

However, I'm just thinking:

3 MB participants, all struck on the left side of their vehicles by deer, none of which had insurance (or proof of insurance).

Anybody see "The Birds"?

Yes, fun is Ok!

Saw "The Birds" many times - my mother loved scary movies!

Sheesh, thankfully we're just talking deer here! Elk would be much worse!

Gee Whiz,
Now you started me to thinking..................

The birds was S C A R Y.

Well, my deer was dead after he hit me - so it didn't work to well for him.

I can almost hear music in the background..

First it was keep your doors and windows closed, then don't go near the water, now maybe we should all stay home, and not drive?

Either that, or become a deer hunter.
