OF Course, My favorite!! Although, before I ventured on, my mom had The Fountainhead, and I read that many times!! I probably read it 5X (in my teens) before I finally "got" it, in my early 20s. Actually, the private school that my DD attended for a few years, had Ayn as required reading and oral term papers for their HS students.

that is soo funny,and so like me. JLS was probably the first "deep" book I read and understood.. I still have the hardback copy (minus cover,of course) that my publisher aunt gave me when I was 8. Kinda' a loner until late in HS, and daughter of English major (mom) and grandD of english teach, VERY avid reader. And always had the classics around. I guess I went thru all the kids books in the house by the time I was 6 or 7 and probably tried "grown-up" stuff like Hemingway (another very fave)!!! Didn't get it, so stole bro's SciFantasy and scifi out of bathroom for a while! So now I read everything!!!

You remind me of my dad and bro's. I remember them reading books like "the id and the illiad", "homer" and of course "the hobbit" when I was a kid.
The only thing I am familiar with of Hemingway is "the big two hearted river" because it is close to where I live. As a young man Hemingway used to hang out in a small town by me.
Have you ever read "the song of hiawatha" by Longfellow? It is an epic poem which tells of the fall of the great indian nation through the eyes of an Ojibwe indian. I've never read it from start to finish though.
Wish I had read more when I was a teen.

No, there is nothing deep about my handle...I travel a good deal for work, one of the contributing factors to the state that my M was in prior to her A.
I have read The Fountainhead as well, although I prefer Atlas Shrugged. The only Hemingway I have read is For whom the Bell Tolls....a good read, but I enjoyed Rand better.
I have done most of my reading long after school - and of my own volition. I felt that I needed to make up for what the good 'ole public school system left out.
Now my reading has turned almost totally to M/A/relationship books....more important right now.

Atlas Shrugged = one of my all time favorites, I think I read it in the late 80's. Contributed lots to my political views.
