We've been extremely lenient about enforcing this rule for those of you advocating SYMC's counseling services. However, it's been brought to my attention many times lately by other members, and I feel it is time that we ask for it to stop.

Feel free to mention other websites on the Other Websites Forum. Other than that, please do not advocate to members that they seek counseling/coaching from other counseling services, and do not solicit members for other counseling services. This is explicitly against the rules, and needs to stop.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

I agree. A reminder of and enforcement of board rules is useful.

I am wondering if this restriction includes signature lines that include a URL to another site.

Is this included?

Duly noted!

Pep,

I don't think MB minds posting an occasional link to other websites. What they are frowning upon is the outright advertising or promotion of another site...especially a marriage counseling website.

This is related to active referral of MB Members to other marriage counseling/coaching services and active advertising of other services. A link in a signature might be construed as actively advertising depending upon how it is worded. We have no objections to a simple link such as:

----------
John Doe
http://www.my_mc.com/
===================================
BUT this one would be unacceptable:

----------
John Doe
To save YOUR marriage,
visit http://www.my_mc.com/
===================================
Or this:

----------
John Doe
A better way to save your marriage:
http://www.my_mc.com/
===================================
See the difference?

The Harleys WANT people to work on saving their marriages, and in that respect, if people choose other services to do so, they are happy that couples are seeking help. It is blatant solicitation/advertising that is be a problem. After all, the Marriage Builders organization pays for the hosting of this site and the licensing of software associated with it - particularly the forum software. Advertising on a forum that another company pays to run is something normally prohibited by the user agreement and in many cases, members violating this may be denied forum access. I hope we won't ever have to face this possibility.

Please, if there are any questions about this post or about the appropriateness of a specific post in this regard, feel free to e-mail the specific forum moderator or myself and we'll answer any questions or look at the post in question to determine if it is in violation of the user agreement.
