A mutual friend is concerned for us.... Should there be some involvement? Talking to Phil? Both of us together?

Sally - in my view, the purpose of exposure is to make the affair uncomfortable for the affairees - caused by the negative opinions and judgements of the "recipients" of the exposure, your friends and family or others whom you expose to.

This affect on the affairees comes via either direct, negative interaction with acquaintences OR the affairees' worries that others may discover or be told of their "secret".

So, if your common friend wants to confront your SO about this in a manner that is critical - good. That's one of the ways exposure works. I suggest you encourage him to do this only because he believes it's the right thing for him to do - and to make it clear to your SO that he's not doing this because you recruited him to.
