I'd like to respond to your comment on the other thread I promised not to respond to anymore. Don't like to break promises........

Evolution implies that the planet earth was not created SOLELY for humans. Whereas creationism proposes that the whole reason the earth exists is for mankind to exist.
I don't think the scientific community cares why the earth came to be - just how it came to be. The "why" is for faith/religion for those who have a need to know.

Why and how are two entirely different things.

I think this illustrates my point that these are two different subjects that shouldn't have to be intertwined - but co-exist to answer the different questions.

That said, I personally believe that humans have no more "right" to be here than a cockroach. There ARE no rights. But we have responsibilities to keep our rock in order lest we kill ourselves off - along with all the cockroaches and other critters. Perhaps the cockroaches will be the only ones to survive - being the meek that inherits the earth.

To think the earth and/or the rest of the universe was created for us humans defines for me the pinnacle of human conceit.

Hi WAT--Did you read my earlier post on that same thread?

I agree. I wasn't trying to say that evolution really answered the question why. (Cause it obviously doesn't). I was just trying to point out why some people may feel offended or threatened by evolution.

Frankly, for me, arguing about whether or not evolution explains how life has come to take its modern form, is like arguing about whether or not the Earth is flat.

Also, I would love to see the modern human pyshe be less homocentric. It's bad for our grandkids.

I agree also about the cockroaches--they adapt to anything it seems! They're likely next at the top of the food chain, that is, if we can't get our act together!

Cheers.

Yes, I read all the "verses" on that thread and there were many comments and assertions I would have liked to have the time to respond to, but when you're competing in a debate on differrent subjects - the why vs the how - there will never be a resolution.

"how vs how" is settled in my view. The creationists have a answer that has been on the shelf for centuries and is stagnant. Science's answer is not complete enough for, and is held to a different standard of "proof" by, the Creationists, so any debate is futile.
