My hubby is from the south and one of the things I absolutely had to learn to cook before we married was a pecan pie. He's even told me that my pecan pie wins over his "mama's" LOL!!!

I loved this, being raised all my life deep down south and only moving to TX in my 20s. Thanks for reminding me of my heritage.

One more thing -- does everyone still use "Bay" as a term of endearment for friends, lovers, children, stray dogs, strangers on the street, the elderly?
Just got back from old home of Louisiana and can't shake that one again.

I've lived in the south for going on 50 years now and I've never heard of that one. You mean like "I bay you" for I love you? LOL.... Susan

Susan:
"Bay" is short for "BABY".
My FWH who is from New Orleans happens to call me that often!
I made it happen..a joyful life..filled with peace, contentment, happiness and fabulocity.

Mimi, you got it exactly.
"Bay" can be a term of endearment -- "Baby" -- or it can be transformed into a general "honey" of sorts and cover everything, from puppies and familiar neighbors to family members and even the highly esteemed postman, lol.
BY THE WAY, Mimi, it's N'awlins! LOLOL

Another poster from (or who are close to someone from) the Gret Stet of Loooosiana. LOL
Star, you really don't call it N'awlins? My NO native folks and I always did -- drawl it out in two looong sylables "Naaaaaahhhhhllll-llllliiiiihhhhhnnnnss" -- but that was a good 10 years ago. Besides, I always lived in the Red Stick until moving here so can't claim native status
So where are you on the "Bay" scale? -- you never said. Heard of it too?
Is this just a Louisiana phenomenom? Now I am wondering. . .
Great joke, btw.

In the south, prime real estate is also church.
Fifth deadly sin, not writing a thank you note.
