Today's quake, I was on the 3rd floor of the hospital .... and it was just rolling and swaying
this building sits on some sort of rocker mechanism which is supposed to change the hard shaking to a rocking movement .... like being in a glider on the lawn .... back-forth-back-forth
the hospital building moves more gently than buildings not sitting on rockers, this is true ... but it keeps moving for a longer period of time
and this is sooooooo nauseating I can't tell you .... yuk
Where the hell is my quake kit???? Gonna go look in my trunk one more time...
dayum shifty Earth!

My appartment is near a heavy-goods railway line. When those babies go by, the whole place shakes.
Guess it doesn't really compare tho. And the weather sucks here too.

California is strange this year (no snide comments from you non-left coasters, LOL). All the shaking - and the strange weather! One day it's 99 degrees with blinding sun, the next 80 degrees and cloudy. What is going on here in the land of fruits and nuts??

I'm sure you silly lefties deserve it! We Texans wouldn't tolerate that foolishness.

Hey Melody, my first earthquake was in Texas!
I was in my house, 30 miles north of Dallas, and a 3 something happened in southern OK. It felt like a semi truck had softly bumped into my house. Freaky!
By the way, I've spent 40 years in TX, and never have seen a tornado. Even chased them with storm chasers once.

Ironically, it was in Illinois where I have also seen tornadoes! Fault lines are everywhere...some are just more active than others.

Whoever is shaking California every few days ... would you pleeeeze just cut it out!
I'm feeling seasick,
Pep *Stops rattling Cali for a minute...* Whoops! Sorry, I just thought I'd lull you all to sleep... you know, taking a nice siesta is nice for your health and all. Maybe I should stop concentrating on my incredible amount of anger towards Cali... I'll see if I can make my father move to some glacier in a deserted area and shake it really hard. *whistles innocently and walks away*
Someone throw me a map already!

Hey Chackler, I had no idea you were so close! I live near Pasadena. Totally missed today's quake as I was on the lumpy bumpy 5 going to the OC.

I lived 10 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prieta quake in 1989. Being upclose and personal with a really big quake, alone in a house with 2 small children was definitely f-r-e-a-k-y. However, unlike a tornado, you can be prepared. And there is no better place in the world to be in an earthquake than California. If a building can't make it through a quake, it's probably already fallen down.
