If you think it sucks there, stay OUT of California. The only saving grace there is the California Pizza Kitchens. At least they're trying to have their own pretentious style. There is good pizza in California...you just have to look real hard.. Real hard is an understatement. I was in San Fran and Oakland and couldn't find squat. Mama Mia's in Fremont..good thick crust Sicilian or paper thin if you like, almost a cracker...just plain great pizza Georgia has 2 count 'em 2 good pizza joints LOL, a whole 2. The Original Mellow Mushroom in midtown Atlanta... And OZ Pizza in Decatur Nancy's is OK too but if you are into Original Chicago style you will be disappointed but for those that wouldn't know a Chicago Pie from anything else it is good. A little pricey as well. I like Nancy's. If you visit Ga. though you gotta stop at one or both of these places...THe MM or OZ

I am from the Chicago area as well, and YES...Chicago's pizza is the BEST! I have lived in the west and the east...and have never found anything close to Chicago. I do not mind thin crust, but the New York style "stuff" is just too greasy. It is like drinking grease with a bit of cheese, sauce and crust thrown in!
I actually like the deep dish stuffed pizza. I worked at Connie's Pizza as a kid...and I would always get a mini deep dish with extra cheese, and garlic!!!! MMMMMMM...making me hungry just thinking about it!
Good other topic to keep us thinking!!

Gino' East....end of discussion. It's probably the closest to ambrosia and manna all rolled into one luscious deep dish!
Then, if you are in the Chicago area and can't get to Gino's, some other choices that will "pass" for good Chicago style deep dish...
Uno's Due's Lou Malnotti's Pal Joeys (for those of you in the Western Burbs)
And if you like the occasional "oddball" but delicious pizza....try a Barbeque Pizza from Jake's!
We finally got an Uno's about an hour from our home in NC.
Now...if someone could just bring in a good Chicago style hot dog.....nirvana!!!!

Oh my foreverhers.....I am originally from Chicago. Moved here to New mexico about 10 months ago. I cannot find a decent pizza anywhere. Now about hot dogs....I love them...the Chicago style that is. Hot dogs seem non existant here. I want a Chicago hot dog so badly and have to restore to fixing my own. Still, not as good as many places in Chicago to get them. Maxlo

Maxie, it took almost 10 years in NC before we got an UNO's Chicago style pizzaria.
No luck on hot dogs though. North Carolinians think a hotdog is a dog with chili and slaw.....marginally edible!
FLT2M - as a former Wheatonite....I'm jealous. Have one for me the next time you visit Joey's!

Gino’s East and Garretts popcorn. My FWH and I go to Chicago frequently, we live somewhat near, and we just love the stuff. We just love vacationing in Chicago!
