Has anybody else seen this show on ABC?

I saw it for the first time last night and was fascinated. It's interesting to me to see how different people react to different situations.

I saw it for 15 minutes last night and turned it off. It annoyed me to no end, as I don't see how anyone can have a "real" date with the camera in their face.

On the other hand, I did crack up when that "smooth" dude (a classic player, IMO) managed to get the girl home on their first date, and then started coming on about how she can stay overnight, "in the spare bedroom", of course, and she left and then told the camera how she was insulted by him. The guy was so transparent, I was really worried that she will fall for it, but I was happy that she didn't.

Thursday nights 7:00/8:00 depending on the time zone.

Yeah, I thought that player was funny too. He was really smooth until she started saying no, then he was just annoying. You should have kept watching... she later got together with an average looking joe who was doing a pretty good job winning her heart. Nice Guys Rule!!! Booya!!

Cool, that would have been nice to see! All I remember was that player dude who told her at the bar (without batting an eye) - "of course I won't try anything if we come to my place", and then the minute they got there started trying to undo her shirt, despite her saying "NO!" over and over. And then to have the gall to suggest that she "sleep in the spare bedroom", with that stupid Neanderthal grin on his face.. Gives all us men a bad name, shmucks like him...

Come on folks. This stuff is just for entertainment.
Surely, nobody takes this nonsense seriously, or mistakes it for real life!

I watched it for the first time also and I was very intrigued by it.. I didn't feel so alone...it was nice to see that other people deal with the same issues as I have experienced and how they reacted. I can't wait til next week.

Nah, we don't pay attention to it.

That's why there is no advertising on television. We never pay attention to advertising on TV and we never adjust our behavior according to what we have seen on TV.

Well, my antenna hook up is broken, so I get snow. I did hear the commercial for it, and thought "Yuck." Could just be that I hate the phrase "hooking up."

Let's get real about reality TV, shall we? It isn't reality at all. Oh, they may use real people, but those "real" people are usually aspiring actors. Nothing in reality TV is actually real. It's all staged and when the cameras are off, the participants coached. I've only watched a few bits and pieces of some of the reality TV shows and that's all it took to disgust me. Reality TV shows showcase all that is sick and twisted in our society in an appeal to our more purient sides. As JustinExplorer points out, it's just entertainment. And it's sick entertainment.

I'm with you GG; I hate the term "hooking up." Hooking up is about using someone else for your own sexual gratification without regard for the other person's humanity. How did this ever become acceptable to us?

Ladies, I'm going to give you a warning about a phenomenon that has sprung from this "hooking up" idea. There are a growing number of young men out there who are actively practicing what they call "[censored] and chuck." It's like a sport to them, an extreme form of playing, if you will. The goal is to use as many women for sex as possible. I and I do mean use. Woo them, use them like a cheap ****** and then summarily dump them. Causing the woman pain is part of the game.

A growing and more alarming aspect of this is a rather extreme form of misogyny. These men, usually quite young, go out and "hook up" with a woman, who (please excuse the language) they refer to as "come dumpsters". He will take her home, where he and his friends have already staged a scenario where they will, through the use of excessive alcohol and/or date-rape drugs, perform perverse sex acts with her, reenacting things they have seen on porn sites. They will often photograph/video these sessions and put them up on web sites that specialize in this "sport". A friend of mine sent me an "OMG!" email with a link to one of these sites a few months ago. It is only one of many.

We aren't in Kansas anymore and you women, especially your younger women, need to be very, very careful out there.
