Sorry I've been away ... been very busy with the new house, moving in together (just over the July 4th weekend) and buying all the stuff we needed (well, not quite all - but we bought until we were broke!) for the house.

Hope someone remembers Buttercup & Westley ...

This past weekend we camped out with horses at a local state park. It was the new horse's second trail ride and he did great. ONE good spook, at it was due to a deer just off the trail so he's excused... my old horse would have done the same.

Saturday we rode out early on a 12+ mile trip. Westley kept saying, let's stop here, or look at that meadow ... I chewed him out about leaving the marked trail.

Finally we got to the "outlook". The trail was completely closed at the top of the hill with newly erected posts and caution tape. I was trying to refigure our route when he said something about stopping and taking a break, something about his knee. I'm thinking okay (whatever you big wuss) and got down and looked around at the view.

Westley came over to me and pinned me up against one of the posts. He was fiddling around with something in his pocket. I said "What are you doing?" and he said "Proposing."

OMG!! One of my very best friends in the whole wide world (I have been blessed to have no less than four people I'd call a BEST friend, most of whom I've known since before high school) asked me to marry him! I hugged him and kissed him and he said "Is that a yes?" and I said YES and cried a little tiny bit but don't tell anyone because no one saw it. *G*

Anyway he pulled out a ring and I was shocked ... amazed really ... he's been complaining about not having the money for a ring and a wedding (we've been talking about getting married for 2 years but he'd not officially asked) and so for a temporary ring he made a braided horsehair ring with hair from all three of our horses and also a little from his own ponytail. It could not have been more perfect. Fits right and everything. HE HAD NO IDEA that I've been talking to someone about horsehair jewelry! JUST this past week! And so I told him what I'd been conniving about getting some of his first horse's tail to make him something with. That's just the funny connection we have.

You couldn't have smacked the smile off my face all weekend long.

the future Mrs. Westley!

I am very happy to read this. It is just delightful to hear about a woman who cares more about the man she is marrying than the type of ring on her finger. CONGRATULATIONS!!

And to a fellow "Princess Bride" fan... "This is true love. Do you think this happens every day?"

Oh, XPG, you brought tears to my eyes, as well. How wonderful. As a horse owner myself, I can appreciate the perfectness of it all. Congrats on the new house, too.

Thanks everyone. Life after divorce has been like a fairy tale for me. I am 100% sure this was God's plan for my life all along, and not the dark path I was on.

The funniest thing is, his best friend and girlfriend are also getting married ... so we are going to have a double wedding, with (of all things) a PIRATE theme! No stuffy formalities for us ... just fun with all our family and friends! (It will be the second marriage for three out of the four of us.)

Gotta get the pastor to brush up on his pirate-speak! Aarrrr!

I'm not really a diamond kinda girl. My temporary ring is a painstakingly handmade braided horsehair ring that means more to me than any rock. I am actually wearing it on a cord now as I was accidentally breaking strands while doing everyday stuff.

We are going to pick out wedding bands together. I am thinking (and have been for a while) of a Lord of the Rings style gold band for him, with something entirely mushy engraved in ancient elvish on the band. (But he can say it translates to "I am strong!" LOL) Something similar for me, simple and timeless. He bought me the perfect ring once already, my fire opal from our trip to Hawaii when he asked me to spend forever with him. The stone is too precious to me, to wear that ring everyday. I am too rough on jewelry ... I'm a farm girl.
