Hi

I'm looking for some help. I have a cheese allergy and the last time i mistakenly had some, in the morning I woke with my face all swollen.

At 7pm this evening i ate soemthing with cheese in and only realised this at 11pm (it's now 12 here). I'm now scared to go to bed in case this time my throat swells up instead of my face. will I wake up if this happens?

I have just taken an antihistamine tablet (clarityn).

Any help would be great as i'd love to go to bed but i'm too scared.

I am not a medical doctor!

Are you O.K? I had an allergic reaction (actually turned out to be a rare side effect) to a drug about 16 years ago and it started with my tongue swelling and closing off my throat. It ended with my jaw dislocated because of the muscle spasms in my face. It was sooooo painful!

It has been about an hour since you posted...is the claritin helping? Do you feel any swelling now? Try to relax and stay calm. Do you have anyone with you?

You need to call the doc on call. You'd know by now. I took extra benadryl with the clarinex...75 mg, but it knocked me out. Do you have an epi pen? The next day I had to take prednisone. Call the doc on call, this may be an emergency or go to the ER, call someone.

Thankyou for the response - MAL and NJ

I'm fine thankyou I took the clarityn and it kept most of the swelling down to a dull itch and red face.

Sorry for the panic but in my down state, I seem to be over reacting to a lot at the moment.

Thankyou for caring.

glad everything is ok and you didn't end up looking like Will Smith in "Hitch" having an allergic reaction!

Not a doc, but a degreed med professional...going off to masters' school next fall...can say the following.

Keep benadryl on hand. Or epipen. Those help. You get epipen from a MD.

You had an anaphalaxis....severe rx to something and it can be quite severe in some cases....I've had a few in teh past. Keep these meds on hand. But only use one. For mild problem, take the benadryl. For severe, epipen as directed by physician may be needed.

We also have a nurse practicioner here who posts....I am trying to remember her MB name?
