I know there are several others here in Mississippi -- several who are south of me. Not sure if we've got people in NO. Good luck and let us know how you fare.

And dear hubby timed this just right. He had surgery two weeks ago and can't lift anything!

So I'm doing all the heavy stuff outside! Trying to tie down tables, etc.

Guys, we would appreciate the prayers. My H and I are from south Louisiana (now in Houston) and both of our entire families live in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. It looks like it's gonna be really bad.

Sunny, hot, and still right now. A beautiful day.

Clouds are rolling in. It is supposed to be raining by midafternoon.

StillLovingHim! Did your family leave?? They must. Still hot, broken clouds here. No wind, but I'm in central Miss. so we won't start seeing things until tomorrow. It's supposed to still be hurricane strength when it arrives here, so in with the flower pots, etc. I'm sorry you're having to do all your prep work on your own Susan! Do you have all your stuff -- batteries, flashlights, water, etc.? Take care --

YES...NO....OH, I don't know! I think so. I hope so. We are still working on it!

Is that the way you feel?

My office has closed for Monday and Tuesday.

I'm cooking a big meal right now so we can eat decent now in case we lose power later! LOL

We have bottled water, ice, batteries, a portable tv that operates on batteries. Flashlights and candles. Cars are full of gas. Butane tank for gas grill is full. Weather radio located.

Be safe!

Susan

Susan, Shelly, please be safe! Praying for you.

Isn't Star*Fish in New Orleans? Has anyone heard from her?

Shel, my family in NO have gone towards BR to wait it out, but Baton Rouge isn't totally safe itself! I am so frusturated with their stubbornness and am begging them to come here with me, but they don't want to be too far from their homes.

I've always seen TV coverage where the anchorman had interviewed people who refused to leave their homes in the face of a major hurricane, and thought they were total fools. I never thought my family could be so stubborn!

Be safe, guys! I will remember you in prayer.

Orchid, is he being deployed to Houston to help out in LA, MS and AL once the storm passes? Or will he be going in tomorrow?

We're in Houston, or south of Houston.

If things are as devestating as the forecasters think, we will be going over to LA to check on family and help out as we can.

Suz, you've been on my mind today! Please take care of yourselves!

We have a steady stream of refugees coming in. I feel SO SAD for these poor people! H doesn't expect to get off duty until late sometime tomorrow night (law enforcement).

This one is huge....and it IS scary.

Slh,

H just said he is scheduled to fly into Houston. Not sure where his assignment will be. The initial flights in ususally go to a command type of center then their are dispersed.

Wherever he is finally assigned, I may need to ask for input in the area regarding lodging and stuff. He is pretty resourceful but you know me, gotta try to help. LOL!!! He said I have a lot of friends....all over the place. I know that includes my MB friends.

Susan,

R u asking about my H? If so, he is a subcontractor for Fema as a field inspector. There are different levels of disaster relief work and one of them includes sending inspectors out to survey the damage based on claims submitted. He does mostly residential cases. There are a lot of those inspectors on call and they have been busy this past year. He was able to get temporary housing and generators out there for some of the more severe cases last year.

So if you see an inspector in a aloha shirt, ask him if he knows Orchid. LOL!!! laugh If he smiles, that's H. If he gives you a wrinkled brow, that's not H.

Were you able to get everything batten down?

OK!

Yes, we are now hunkered down. We have been busy all day.

I'm exhausted!

My family and I spent the afternoon helping our church set up a Red Cross center. I feel so bad for the people who are coming. Most are poor, with no other family or place to go. I'm so glad they got here though -- so many had no way to leave NO. I just saw the latest projections and NO can get 19" of rain. That thought makes me feel sick. It's not expected to be a piece of cake here, but at least the folks at our shelter will be away from NO and the Miss. coast.

Gosh, Susan. I wish I had a battery operated TV! That one didn't occur to me. I'm glad your hatches are battened down! Still working on it here.

I hope y'all make it through Katrina, but I'd personally board up my windows, move the patio furniture and planters indoors, and haul @$$ northward. My niece lives in Mobile, and that's her standard mode of operation during the hurricanes. You can hit I-55 and get to N. MS (where I am) or Memphis in about 6-8 hours if the traffic isn't too bogged down.

We'll probably get a lot of rain and some wind here. Nasty, but not nearly as bad as what y'all will be going through!
