That is correct. The US Air Force has seen fit to move me from the paradise that is St. Petersburg, Fl to the thriving metropolis of Wichita Falls, TX. It's not exactly what we had wanted but on the plus side we can buy a house twice as big for half the $$ we can here.
'Sposed (is that country-speak?) to be there the first of Feb. Which should be fun since my wife is due to give birth 10 days prior to us leaving. Adding to the fun a 2+ day drive with two cars, an eight year old, two dogs, a cat AND a new-born to move into a house with no furniture.
The wife and I are doing good. The stress from the move, a new state and buying/selling a house is a little taxing but other than that it's pretty smooth. We are still teaching the Dynamic Marriage course at our church and looking forward to doing that in TX too.
Maybe I can meet some of you Texas MB'ers (y'all seem nice). Will I still be a Yankee if I come from Florida. I've always been a Cowboy fan, so the license plate and the Stars are on the pick-up already.
At least I can get some decent Mexican food again.
God Bless,
Doug

to the thriving metropolis of Wichita Falls, TX. I spent 3 years in the Army at Fort Sill, OK. So you're like, OK what does that have to do with Wichita Falls. Actually there is a little concert hall there and I used to go down there about once a month and watched all the 'major' country music acts roll through. It was so cool, this place only held like 2,000 people and there truly were no bad seats, that and I never had a problem getting tickets..... I haven't heard that town name for a decade and your post jogged my memory..... Welcome to the Mid-West, partner......

Just remember if you don't like the weather, it may change by tomorrow. Tomorrow? Don't you mean, "If ya don't like the weather, wait five minutes"? Well, that's the case here in Houston, anyhow! Welcome to the real Wild West. Overall, TX has one of the the cheapest standards of living in the nation. Cheaper houses, groceries, etc, but the electricity's a bummer! Hey d!
I think you're about 4000 miles short of your mark aren't ya? I thought you were going to end up at Hickam. Then you wouldn't have to worry about driving. Just ship the cars and fly. But then again you would only be able to buy a garage and bathroom with the way housing prices are over here.
Blessings to you and the family.

p.s. drose, FLorida is CRAWLING with yankees, so you might as well be EYE-talian as from Florida. But at least you aren't from New Jersey or C.A.L.I.F.O.R.N.I.A.; those folkses are hopeless..
One nice thing is you will be close enough to Turkey, Tex so you can attend the annual Bob Wills Day. And b.y.o.b. because if I remember right, Wichita Falls is dry and the closest wet town is Electra, Texas. Hope you are a good Baptist boy!

I'll be coming in from the east so I shouldn't run into any border guards, should I? I got peso's, euros, drachmas and a couple dozen head of cattle (in case I need to barter for foodstuffs and sundries). Just remember if you don't like the weather, it may change by tomorrow.
Tomorrow? Don't you mean, "If ya don't like the weather, wait five minutes"? Thanks for the link slh. As far as the weather goes Florida is the same way. At any moment the temperature could vary as much as 3 degrees, but with the humidity it seems like 8. I guess I'll need to get some....what do y'all call 'em...long pants? For when it gets cold. s & c, I tried my brother. No offense to the Texans here but Hawaii sounded more appealing, plus I like poi and lomi salmon. p.s. drose, FLorida is CRAWLING with yankees, so you might as well be EYE-talian as from Florida. Spent 5 and a half years in So Cal and 7 years in Florida. On the phone a business associate asked me once "What are you?" I replied, "A white dude, why?" They replied, "you sound like a black-mexican." DRY!!!! dear d-rose...

Carbondale, huh?? I married a yankeeboy from Flat Rock, Ill and all his kidlets go [went] to college in Carbondale. I venture up there fairly often. DH thinks he is from the "south" since he is from "southern Ill." I guess one more yankee won't hurt too much.

Mel,
I was always considered from the south because of the whole S. Illinois thing. I am actuall from a small town about 30 miles south of carbondale. Just used it as a reference point because it does show up on some maps.
Thanks for letting me in. I won,t embarass you...too much.
Doug
P.S. I'm a good Baptist boy

Believer,
I'll still go to forward, me moving to TX won't stop that. In fact, me going to TX will probably increase the chances and the number of times that I will go. That part is inevitable. Maybe it's a man thing...more likely a soldier thing, but there is a big part of me that wants to go forward. I don't want to leave my family and I'm not trying to romanticize war but there is something that's inside me that wants to do a little more than I'm doing. I can't quite explain what it feels like but I'm sure some of you have an idea.
I'm not so much complaining about going to TX, I'm just expressing my displeasure with the circumstances I find myself currently in. : )
I'm an optimist...can't wait to get to TX.
God Bless
Doug

How about Rowlett? Abilene? San Marcos? (can you say "beer barn"?) Oh - by the way - I can buy Baileys AND Seagrams at the GROCERY STORE now. answers: coffee city mobile city abilene san marcos Pretty good trivia answers for an CALIFORNIAN, eh? Drose - Have fun in Wichita Falls! Watch those troopers when you get about 30 miles out..... And get a load of the old power lines on the north side of the highway about 75 miles out. Wild! - look like they should have been cleaned out 20 years ago. far
