Susan's town was hit pretty hard by Katrina. No power, water or phones in her area....nor in most of my area. Our power is on for the moment, but constantly flickering. Trees and power lines are down absolutely everywhere. I've never seen anything like this. Katrina was a Cat.2 when it hit us, so I guess it was at least a Cat.3 when it hit Susan's town.

We finally just got to see some fuzzy aerial footage of the devastation that was our Mississippi Coast....disheartening and devastating. Almost surreal.

Thank you for your continued prayers for Mississippi and our fellow southerners.

Lori

Susan was supposed to text message me that she was Ok.

I haven't heard from her. She's in my prayers.

Oh .... just got back home....

yes.... got emails from Suz ....

then got text msg on cell saying "power down"

next one said " wind gusts 100 MPH"

another said "big tree limbs down"

then another "power pole down in yard wire loose"

then text "this is the worst of it"

later, she sent me a cell phone photo of her back yard with trees all over

she is physically safe ... I have not heard from her today

her adult son is with them ... he's army ... strong and fit .... she's OK

they were well prepared with supplies .... but have no electricity ....

sure looks like Mississippi took the worst hit ever ! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I think a lot of the power is down. I have friends at work that have family there, and they have not heard ANYTHING.

Let's all continue praying, and also send money, which is always helpful.

Thanks, Pepperband. I'm very glad to hear Susan is o.k.

Many of the cell towers are down. We had only sporatic cell phone usage until last night. My MIL finally got some cell phone coverage late last night. It may be a while longer before the towers are repaired in Suz's area, but that is a priority item from what I understand. Right now ice and gas are the most difficult "luxuries" in demand right now...and the hardest to come by. Lines are literally hours long here for both. Only a few gas stations are open due to power outages. I'm sure it's much worse in Suz's area.

Yes, "devastating" is the word. My heart is broken for all those people who lost everything....their homes, jobs, businesses, friends, family....devastating.

I'm assuming even cell-phone usage will peter out, as it won't be possible to recharge?

Susan, I hope you are safe and well.

I'm glad that Susan was able to send messages to Pep, and I hope that she and her family are O.K.

Where I'm at in N. MS, we usually just get a lot of rain and some wind, but we had some damage here, as well. A number of trees were uprooted, and some were snapped in half, including one on our courthouse lawn. A gas pump at a local station was blown over, and lots of limbs, leaves and debris are around. We live in the country, and don't have a lot of trees in our yard itself, but had a big limb broken off a tree at the edge of the back yard. The tree is right behind my sewing/crafting shed, so I'm thankful that the limb didn't damage my shed.

I'm praying for all the folks south of us. It breaks my heart to see such devastation.

I tried everyway I know to reach Susan yesterday and today .... nada.

But, I am sure she is physically OK. And, she has her family with her. Her 2 dogs are OK too ... they were in the camera phone pix she sent 2 days ago (along with Mr. Suz)

Wonderful news from Susan, Pep. Thanks for relaying that.

Certainly we're inconvenienced here with misc. damage to buildings and shortages of electricity, ice, gas...but that's ALL it is, really, just an inconvenience. When I see the footage and hear the stories of people on the LA and MS coasts (haven't heard anything re: AL coast yet), my heart just breaks.

I just read a post by furnitureman on the Divorced board re: the areas south of him in LA. It's absolutely heartbreaking. I can't imagine the he!! some of those people have gone thru....are continuing to go thru.

It almost makes me feel guilty...survivor's guilt, or something like that.

I know I'm rambling and not making much sense. I just feel so emotional and sad.
