I'm looking for some alternatives to the traditional J-O-B, so that I can go to school and still have as much time as possible at home with the kids. I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction and provide me with ideas!

I work from home. I am a novelist and I do medical transcription as well.

Working as a novelist or any sort of freelance writer takes a long hard committment and there may never be any real money in it -- at least, not enough to live on. Most people start this as a second job while working a "real" one. That's what I did.

One year ago I began working at home as a medical transcriptionist. You *must* take a class in it -- some community colleges have them, or you can take a good home study course like I did -- but *no one* will hire you without at least having a completed course under your belt. Even then it can be very difficult to get hired, but it can be done.

Do a Google search on "medical transcription at home" and look around, but watch out for scams.

Also, you can subscribe to KAMTLIST at yahoogroups.com. They are all MTs who are either working or studying and often talk about how to get started, who's a scam and who's not, etc.

I think some people do medical billing and coding at home, too, but I don't know anything about that.
Good luck.
