That cat will know "blowhard" pretty soon.

SLH, where are you going in Dallas? You are taking a bus down there?

Hey, Mel, thanks for asking. Sorry for the response delay; I'm checking all email and weather reports online in between watching the TV and packing like mad and photographing everything (see other post above).[/i]We are taking our SUV. Still, with all the kids, cats, dogs, etc and the few things I want to preserve, there is NO ROOM.

John lives in a big house in Allen, so we'll have ample room. Thank God; we are bringing a Zoo!!!

Traffic from here to Huntsville is estimated at 6 hours!! (Usually a one hour drive!) Than only leaves an additional 4 hours of screaming, whining, meowing, barking fun on I-45. I can't wait!

Like I said, though, at least Galveston County has a great evac plan, orderly and exact. That's more than I can say for New Orleans.

Wow! My prayers are with all of you here in the path of the Hurricane. I keep checking TWC and it doesn't look good. SLH, very smart to be moving out....I hope everyone else is heeding the evacuation!

Take Care!!

Thanks for the prayers, y'all. I have grown up somewhere along the Gulf Coast all my life and experienced plenty of Hurricanes, but this one scares the bejeevies outta me. And I am a hardened Hurricane Veteran.

Most people are leaving, Kimberly. My county, Galveston County, is under Mandatory Evac, but we don't have to be out until tomoorow at 12. Still, it looks like a ghost town here. Very surreal.

Just for reference, the Hurricane that hit Galveston in 1900 was a Cat 4 and did some immense damage. As there were no warnings and no evacs then, a lot of people died (8000+). I don't think nearly as many people will perish in this one (God willing), as they are heeding the warnings, but the old Galveston storm phots I've seen on Discovery and History are a stark reminder of what a Cat 4 can do. I guess I'm saying this in reference to the fact that I just saw that Rita's already on record as the 3rd most intense hurricane ever. Ouch.

Well, we're hunkering down...at least for the moment. I have no family here and could not find a hotel within 8 hours of here.

I live in Northwest Houston - outside the storm surge (flood) area, but well within the projected rain/wind. I don't think I need to say, I am scared out of my wits. I have done everything I can do - have water, have supplies, have gasoline. Tomorrow, I will tape my windows and move my furniture to the inside walls of the house.

Please, please keep us in your prayers.

BB and son

I will have to ditch that cat, huh? lol Seriously, I have a fenced in backyard and that stupid cat is a house cat [lucky me! ] so they would be seperated anyway.

Mel, I just e-mailed you and a fenced in yard would do these two just fine. They are friendly dogs and would probably like the cat if the cat was tolerant of them.

How the heck do you get to Longview?

BB, just take 59 up to Nacogdoches, get on 259 N and it takes you right into Longview. I think it's about 3.5 hours, not far!

I can do that! In fact, it will be a different route than everyone else is going! I'm going to wait and watch today and tomorrow before I make a decision.

Well they have already started running out of gas up here in my little neck of the woods. How are things in Longview Melody?

I heard about gas being 5.00 by this weekend. So I went to the pumps about 5pm and filled 'er up!! The mom of my daughter's best friend just dropped DD15 off after bible study...the mom said she drove around for half an hour trying to find gas.

They said that here, but it didn't happen. Be sure and fill up your cars now.
