has anyone heard anything about the dna tests you can buy on line. how expensive are paternaty tests.how soon can we have one? do we have to have ow permission first. I figure we better start saving for the test now.If we get it online are they acceptable by the courts or do they only allow there own?
thanks for your help

Well, some are and some are not. Some are used in courts and others are not. All the parties (adults that is) have to know about the test for it to be accepted in court. I would check into your court system though. I know we order one through our court and it was only like 198.00. It varies county to county. Not even state to state. Now there are some privat labs that are accepted in court as well, and they are a bit higher but that is also an option.

You know that you have to have one right? So if I was you, I would find out through your court system (or child support division) what and how THEY go about it. They may even have a website for that info. Find out the cost and take it from there.

Yes. You can get phone consultations all day long for free and some even in office. I'm sure your state has a on the internet your revised statue. First I'd read that, then write down your questions. There should be seperate laws for unwed couples. There are also websites for fathers rights that you can ask questions for free in your state.

Regardless if you settle an amount with the ow, please please have it legalzed through the court! It protects everyone involved. Make sure all is written in the order and leave nothing un-addressed. This will insure less court time later on if something comes up and it was not brought up in the eariler order. Plus in some counties, it can take months to get court dates so it's just easier to just take care of all concerns in the beginning. I think you said the oc is not born yet, so you have time to investage and get your ducks in a row. It's better to go in this educated, versus being up in the air and having someone having the upperhand or having someone screwed over kwim?

I'm not certain in every state that all parties (adults) have to know about the dna test in order for it to be admissible in court. My exWS and I had looked on the internet for dna testing services. As NTMO noted, some are admissible in court and others are not. The sites will tell you which is which. The ones admissible in court are more costly on the sites we checked out.

If your spouse's name is listed on the birth certificate, they have the right to have testing done without the other parent's consent or knowledge. They can do a cheek swab on the baby, and a swab or blood draw from the alleged parent. If I remember correctly, it can cost more when there is a sample from only one parent because more testing is required.

My exWS chose to get a less expensive test that wasn't admissible in court. He wanted to know mainly for his own sake. He wasn't sure the OW was faithful to him during their affair! To my knowledge the OW never found out about the testing. Of course "my knowledge" was not always very accurate! (By the way, the OC was his.)

Heartmending. Excatly. In fact if you don't have the money and want to do this, this would be the route to go then your husband can sign the AOP and go from there. But if he wants it's ammesable in court, you'd need to have a more expensive one.

I was amazed though at how inexpensive it was through our court system. It was less than 200.00. All parties swab and sent to NC for the actual testing, then to the court house. Now we did not get copies, as our attorny's had to get them from the judge then give us copies.

Now if the DNA test you do at home comes up negitive, then all you need to do is order one through the courts. Then make it a stipulation that the ow pays you back if DNA comes back negitive. Then it will be asmessable in court kwim?
