The trouble with likening this to addiction is that it somehow "pardons" the behavior a bit....shifting the responsibility of the WS. "I couldn't help but hurt you and lie to you--my brain had no control over my actions."
There is never an excuse or justification for having an A. However, explanations give some understanding on why people make certain choices and continue with certain behaviors. Therefore, I view the likening of an A to an addiction as an explanation only. Explanations is not the same as excuses, rationalizations, justifications etc. and only provide some understanding & insight.

And regarding free will: I beleive a person always have a choice. Even the addictive person who don’t have the necessary will-power; strength; self-discipline or whatever to stop with the addiction by him/herself, can still make the choice to reach out and get professional help & support to help him/her overcome the addiction.
