OK, so it's been a long long time since I've had first-date jitters. I have become totally accustomed to going to these with enough red flags about the other person to not really worry about whether she likes me or not.

So now, for a change, Eharmony sent me a match with a lady who is relationship-focused, smart, pretty, "normal", and, best of all, whose Myers Briggs is almost identical to mine.

We e-mailed for almost two months, then chatted a couple of times on the phone for 2 hours at a time, and both are really looking forward to our first date - tomorrow!!

But, because I am at a loss for any red flags about her (so far), I keep thinking "wow, could she be the one??", and I am really nervous about "blowing it" by doing something stupid.

I reread all the recent threads of "what to wear on a first date", "how to act on a first date", "should you show your interest on a first date", and "should you try to touch/hug/kiss her on the first date", and I am totally confused, since so much of the advice is contradictory.

I know, I'll just be myself and see how it goes and take it from there. Anyway, if anyone wants to send some good wishes my way for tomorrow, they'll be welcome .

Never heard about the FDSS? First Date Stress Syndrome?
Happens to the best of us. Most likely when really something might be at stake, not when red flags have popped up left and right.

AGG, I´ve been on the boards long enough to know your posts - and always appreciated them a lot - that I can hardly imagine you doing something as stupid as to completely blow it.
If it blows, it must be her.

I wish you the best.

Let us know how it went.

AGG~~

I'm with GFH on this one, your replies say a lot about you and your character. I don't think you can possibly go wrong on your date.

Enjoy yourself! I think she will be pleased with her date.

Good Luck!

I find this very sweet . In all likelihood you will meet her & have a good time. Conversation will flow smoothly, you'll laugh & want to kiss her . Not a bad way to spend your time.

No amount of us telling you to relax will make you relax. Until you've met her & spent some time together you just have to wait & wonder .

Best of luck & enjoy, anticipation can be a good thing.

Maybe he's still on the date...

Either that, or she was secretly nuts and killed him.

On this day I see clearly.
Everything has come to light.
A bitter place and a broken dream,
and we'll leave it all behind.
On this day its so real to me
Everything has come to life
Another chance to chase a dream
Another chance to feel
Chance to feel alive

Ah, crap, this is exactly what I was afraid of...

No, I didn't dump pasta on myself, but she dumped marinara sauce on her white sweater, and no, I did not offer to help wipe it off despite the, uh, interesting location of the blob...

But I digress... The part I was afraid of is that I liked her... Heck, I am totally smitten - and the last time I was smitten, I got my heart handed to me in pieces.

But we chatted for 5 hours, we walked and shopped, we laughed, it was all so... effortless. How refreshing.

So yes, I made the classic faux pas and asked her if she wants to see me again. And she said "sure!". And she gave me the best hug goodbye.

So, my skeptical self is now saying "self, be careful - you have gone on dates where you felt no real chemistry towards the woman but sure acted like you did (to be "nice"), there is always the chance that the same thing is at work here". I want to think that this is not the case, as she shares with me the trait of being very direct. Nor did she take any of the many chances we had to part fairly early, so it seemed that she genuinely enjoyed my company. Shocking, I know.

Anyway, she is now off for two weeks to visit her family, but we made plans to see each other when she comes back.

I certainly am planning to try to keep my feelings in check , but sheesh, this is a place where I am not all that comfortable - being crazy about someone.

Well, that's about it, but I get the feeling that I will be (for a change) posting my own "dating story" - so y'all be nice to me like I am always nice to you...

Well, I would be glad you didn't help to wipe the marinara sauce off.....

I dumped melted butter in my lap once - fortunately, he had the same good taste you had - make that, good manners.

Glad it went well.

I haven't had a first date in several years......same ol' diplomat lives a gazillion miles away.

I am happy for you!

Gosh, reading these romances that a few of you are having lately makes me a tad jealous. When I think of it for myself though, it scares me to "feel" like that again.
As exciting as it is, that's how much it scares me too!

I wish the best for you GG!
And yes, we like updates!!

Well good for you, dear buddy ole pal! I'm so glad to hear you've entered into a smitten phase, I will keep my fingers crossed it continues to blossom!

So I gather you might say your eHarmony experience so far has been good. I'm hesitant to put out the bucks for it...Match is cheaper, more local activity, but it also doesn't seem to be "matching" well. Argh. BUT...slow and easy.....

Hi Laura, good to see you, but I am sorry that you are on "this" board - I read about your latest developments on EN - sorry .

Yes, it's nice to be smitten, but I also hate it, since I really don't know if she liked me anywhere near as much as I liked her, so it's scary. And she'll be gone for almost three weeks, so it'll seem like an eternity until we can see each other again.

As far as Eharmony, there have been several threads about it, most (IMO) with negative feedback. I personally hated it - I have over 300 matches, most of whom had nothing in common with me. G (my date) is the first to be close to me - INTJ (and I am the ISTJ ), so I suppose if we end up dating and having a relationship, I would have to be thankful to Eharmony. But still, it shouldn't take 300 tries to match me up with someone close to me, should it?

How are things with you, other than the obvious? Anyway, it's nice to hear from you!

Hi AGG!

I happened to spot this post whilst it was on top, and had to pop in and wish you well. It's kinda cute to see you all smitten .

Hope things continue to go well for you!
