hello all, I've never posted so I appreciate any advice. Some minor background, I've been married once before, my girlfriend has been married once before. We have a terrific day to day relationship, no bickering at all (except for my lack of commitment). She's an amazing woman and if I were to write out a list of "wants" in a person, she's 98% of what I'm looking for. But... for some reason, I'm scared to take the next step and propose. I know she very much wants it and most days I do too. But some days I'm scared to death of getting into another marriage. I'm not sure if it's the "grass is greener" routine or if I think there is someone out there that could be 100% of what I'm looking for. I guess I get stuck looking at who I'd be missing out on by proposing instead of concentrating on the wonderful woman I have in front of me. When I do really think hard about proposing to her, I feel like I'm trying to talk myself into it. I get nervous rather than really exicted about the prospect. Anyone have any similar history, any recommendations etc...? thank you.

Does your girlfriend understand your hesitation? Is she pressuring you?

Well, since our relationship over the last two years has been on again, off again and we've recently gotten back together (nov), she feels that I need to step up and prove that the reason I want to make this work is to get married. So essentially yes, there is a little bit of pressure. She was actually expecting a proposal over Xmas or new years and was a little upset that it did not come about. When I'm with her, everything is right and I'm happy, but when I'm alone, I can't help but think about "what am I missing out on".

You sound just like my previous boyfriend. Our relationship was great except the fact he was scared to take the next step. He wasn't ready to get married, but he didn't want to "loose" me either. I was the one to actually break up with him because it is not fair to either one of us. Neither of us are wrong for having the feelings we have. I was ready to commit after a two year relationship, but he wasn't. He had been married previously. I have never been married. I couldn't fault him for not being ready. Time heals a lot of wounds, so for us it is working fine to give each other some time to reflect.
