My stepson told my son about a computer program called Google Earth where you put in an address on your computer and a satalite photo comes on your computer where you can zoom in to actually see people and cars. This sounds very promicing for survailance. Unfortunately it doesn't work on my computer. I don't know if it works for all adresses or only major cities.

Unless you're paying the big bucks for the extended service, you'll be getting years-old views when you zoom in, and most of the "free" shots are so fuzzy you can't make anything out. When H pulled up shots of Iraq and Kuwait, it was pre-war. It's cool for kicks, but way out of my price range (can't remember how much but I remember gasping when my FIL told me the cost) just for snooping's sake.

The only problem with using the information is the satellite pictures are not current. For instance my neighbor installed a pool at least 3 years ago and the images still don't show the pool in his backyard.

I think it is $500 or $600 to get the extended service. Is that current time?

Google lists the PRO service as $400. But it says that for any of the services the pictures are not captured in real time and can be up to 3 years old.

I'm a professional user of Google Earth. I've got access to the best of what they offer, and I never expected more up-to-date imagery than what everyone else sees.
Photographic imagery doesn't have enough practical uses to warrant a huge army of polar-orbiting satellites constantly updating a database of high-res photographs of the (largely cloud-covered, don't forget) earth.
