He was so impressed he decided to major in business when he went to college. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> But Hey, if you are talking real geek you are talking carrying your pens and pencils strapped to your slide rule with a rubber band. Oh and the slide rule was hanging from you belt. Now we are talkin REAL Geek. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Pocket protectors, really were never fashionable IF you had a slide rule. I may go see the IMAX version of this. But, I do have a problem that my W reminds me of regularly...I pay attention to details. Have any of you see the car add for a SUV where they haul a back board up to the top of some hill/mountain, and then watch the sun set through it, and then annouce she is up 12-10? Well, if you look the sun is setting in the wrong direction. If she is facing west (where the sun usually sets, right 2L?) then it should be moving from left to right, but in the scene it is going right to left. It just bugged the heck out of me when I first saw it. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> So yup another science GEEK reports in. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Hey WAT what are you up to these days? My memory stick is somewhere in my pants cuff. I just got to sew this pocket back together one of these days.
Around my neck I hang about sixteen badges and access cards. And I wonder why I walk all stooped over.
I agree one of the problems with a classical science education is an extreme attention to detail. Just ruins my ability to suspend my disbelief when watching a good SF movie. (That’s Science Fiction, the real EN, to you non-geeks.)
Now if you'll pardon me, I have to remove my computer glasses and find my going to the bathroom glasses...
PS: I still have my slide-rool, you know. Original oiled leather case with belt loop. He!!, I still have my original belt. And I still have my first TI calculator. Cost $350 in 1973 or so and about the size and weight of a brick. DS laughed his head off first time he saw it.

Ah... I just remember the day...
For my first Physics class (Mechanics and sound) in Jr College, I borrowed my dad's awesome-work-of-art Kueffel and Esser. REAL IVORY.
By next semester, he'd bought one of the first HP 35s. Cost him $410, as I recall. But it saved my beautox on more than one exam!
...then, when I was taking astronomy in 1974, the deptartment had a HP 45 that we could use 2 map the Milky Way from above, using redshift data. Gawd, what a machine that was!

I should add that we made the maps on GRAPH PAPER, with No. 2 PENCILS (so we could erase our mistakes and not waste graph paper). The calculator was programmable, but it only had an LED display.
I love reminiscing with people I've never met.

I bought an HP 21 in 1975 that survived until the mid-80s, when I dropped it. It didn't break, but it would sometimes "forget" what I was asking it, in the middle of something important. So I tossed it and got an 11c. Have no idea where that one went, but it's in this office somewhere (I should open my desk drawer one of these days and see if it's there!).
The guy 2 doors down still has his HP21 on his desk.
We're old!

Actually, the HP-35 didn't store any instructions - the 45 did.
It can "store" one constant and has all the natural functions (trig and ln) plus 1/x, x**y, sqrt x, log AND one key pi.
An amazing machine in 1972. Or was it 1973?
