I have an important question for the geeks in the house. My STBX called a few days ago, saying she has filed for a "partial divorce". We've been separated, off and on for about 3 years now. Her lawyer told her the process can later escalate to full divorce in about a year. We live in different states and where I live, I can file for full divorce right away, the whole process should be over within 3-4 months. Now, my question is, is it legal for me to file for a divorce in my state knowing that she has already filed in a different state? We have both agreed that the marriage is doomed and that a divorce is in our best interests. There is a 12-year-old child involved.
