Have you tried going to the support site of the printer? They all have a troubleshooting section. HP... Epson... Lexmark... all of them. Just go to their main website (ie - www.hp.com) and look for a support section and follow the prompts. Also, if you can't find info specific to your problem then go to Google and search on your problem (eg - HP P1000 lights flashing). The forums out there are full of better answers then the manufacturers.

Did you cancel the print job and restart your printer? It sounds like too much data is trying to go to the printer.

Have you printed anything since you replaced the cartridge?
Maybe reboot PC?

Double check the connections at the CPU and the printer.
To reboot:
hold down the Ctrl & Alt keys simultaneously and then hit delete.
Or just turn your computer off, wait at least a minute and turn it back on.
Is the paper loaded properly?
Have you had any bad weather since you last printed? Any power surges?

Just restart it.
But first you might want to take cartridge out and reseat in in printer and I'm sure you pulled the plastic slip protector slip on ink heads before putting it in printer.
Then restart pc.

One more thing:
On my printer (HP) the lights flash when it is out of paper and I have sent a print request. You need to load the paper and then hit the paper feed button.

and like shattered said, definitely check connections before restarting. Especially if it is usb.

Eav, this same thing happened to my dad's computer a while back. I went into Settings, selected "printers/faxes" and deleted the selected printer. I then selected "add a printer" and readded the same printer. It worked like a charm.
