We have been seperated for 11 days and I am kind of scared as nothing is in writing concerning the bills, kids, etc. We have an understanding that the finances would be handled as before, but nothing in print.<P>What kind of things are important in this agreement? Could I write it myself and sign it and would that be legal? I am broke and a lawyer is too expensive. Does anyone know about free or reduced legal services, or how I could find out about it . Is there a web site that is helpful?<P>Sorry for all the questions but I need help here. Thanks for your input<P>

You can probably do it yourself, and you definitely should have a formal separation agreement. (Many states require this and require that you abide by this agreement for a certain length of time before granting you a divorce.) Find a sample form online (do a search on "separation agreement") and just change what you want the provisions to be. You need to include things like living arrangements (who sleeps where), visitation rights (how and when you can see each other), child custody arrangements (if you have children) and who pays for what. You DON'T need to worry about things like property division until/unless you start planning for divorce. Then see about some kind of legal aid to get the agreement made legal by a judge. It will cost you something, but it shouldn't be a budget buster. I'm sorry to hear that you and your W are separated. I've been there before and may soon be there again.<P>--Wex

HI WEx,<P>First, it's my H whom I'm seperated from, I'm the W. (it's ok, I wasnt clear in my post so you had a 50/50 chance) <P>Second, thanks for your advice, I will look into that search on the web. I think it would freak my H out when I do this but I need to protect myself.<P>Thanks
