FAR,
At one point in my career, I found myself living in true yankee land....NEW JERSEY. As soon as we moved, my 20% travel job quickly became 50% or more. Now I took my southern belle wife to yankee land and left her with a todler by herself half the time.
I know what missing home is like. God bless and my He get you back as fast as possible!!!!!

Realtor,
Boy, we really have to ed-cha-cate ya what what the term "Texan" means. Ya see, I was not born in Texas, I just got here has fast I could. That does not make me a Texan. H311, if I claimed that, some big ole cowboy might hurt me!
Texans were BORN in Texas. I really do not think that there is any other way. If any of you true Texans need to whip out your 2x4's on me, please go ahead. I am now used to it!!!

That is correct - no Whataburger. I did find a Dairy Queen. And guess what? They only server HOTDOGS. (What kind of wierd place have we found here??)
Everybody out here talks about the really good burgers - they call them In and Out. Although an OK burger - what Texans consider run of the mill hamburgers (Sonic, Whataburger, DQ) - has no match here. You gotta go to some esoteric fancy schmancy burger place to match the quality. And that is just heresay - I have not even been there yet.
Carls Jr is an OK burger. They put an onion ring in it - knda wierd. Compensation, probably.
DP we have. And I drink lots of it. And I carry one of those Wal-Mart 64 ounce cups full of iced tea(my morning drink). Get a lot of comments about that.
And only one place out here makes a philly cheese steak sammich that is decent (unlike Texadelphia - a store dedicated to a VARIETY of cheese steak sammiches)
I could go on, but then I would get depressed.

Do ya have any Mexican food out there? That is the one thing I really, really missed when I lived in Michigan for 15 years. They do have Taco Bells in Michigan but that is about it!

I am in no way implying that yankees cannot bar-b-que...I am saying full stop that English people cannot bar-b-que. Trust me their idea of it is something out of a horror film!!!!!!!!!

I live 16 miles from the border. There are about six different varieties of 24 hour taco shops out here. Each one is a knock off of the other. Some are good, some are GREAT! All kinds of Mexican food. It is a little different than Tex-Mex, but there is lots of it, and it is great. But no El-Chicos. Gotta go to Tyler for that. I really miss Bar-b-Q. Even Texas fast food Q chains blow the stuff out here they call "Q" out of the water.

I was coming back from Lufkin yesterday [this is Deliverance for those of you who don't know Texas] and some guy had a BBQ pit out front of a beer store selling ribs right off the grill! I bet they were great.
