Since you shared that you used to be a CPA and were going to try to find my information to see if you could help...

I wanted to let you know that I would really appreciate your advice if you are willing!

I am trying to make a big decision.

If my H files separately, he will owe about $5,000.00 and a fine for underpayment of taxes

if i file separately, i will get back both a federal and state refund

so he's asking me to file jointly.

If we do file jointly, my drafted information shows that we would owe about $900 federal which we could pay with our state refund of about $1,500 and have a big $400 left over.

i do plan to seek professional advice since the above figures are only drafts

concerns that i have (other than the plan B perspective)

my H became a legal resident of another state for the last month of 2005 but had his office in his rented apt in that sate for the entire year...he is claiming it as a home office deduction...very small space though

and I am worried that I will in some way be responsible for his debt or his bankrupcy filing since we are still legally married even if we have a property settlement agreement stating that I would not be responsible

this is the thread that snowbelle started for me

eav1967... how about a starting over thread? (the last few pages address the tax issue)

Mimi has also started a thread asking for some male perspectives on this situation...

I woiuld really appreciate your help
